WI Rally: "WE LOVE YOU..."
I was just watching parts of the rally. And I saw his clip on the RM show: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x509582

And when he was talking about how the media is saying the Dems are having an "enthusiasm gap"----the crowd said..."No WE LOVE YOU..." That's what I'm talking about.

For this rally apparently Obama had more people come to see him. Not 17,000 like last time but nearly 26,000. That's my man. I have said this before and I'll say it again. When the President speaks to the people, the people listen. When Obama speaks to the media, the media listens. I was talking to Babylonsister on her cartoon post here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x459811

And how Laurence O'Donnell had two guests on his show and how the Progressive was in effect "whinying," while the interviewer for the Rolling Stone was seeing the real situation at hand. We have Republicans are obstructionists, we have them intentionally handicapping the President. We have another set who seems to put all blame on Obama as though he's a dictator and can "override" (as one poster told me) the actions of the Senate. One poster went as far as to tell me Obma is able to veto DADT. Huh...

Anyway, what I've seen is that when President Obama speaks to the people and looks at them and gets down with them the people stand by him. What I'm seeing is two things though. Obama is not just the President, but he seems to also represent most of the political officials in the Senate and the House. By voting for them you vote for him. I say this because not only does he get strong public love when he goes to these events and it's like he's candidate mode again---going from State to State. And then people keep him to what he says there. He becomes in much of the type the Dem in power. So in essence the crowd or voters seem to project him into their representatives. And this is also seen in the Cities and States he didn't win. I really wonder what would happen if Obama went to Florida and campaigned for Meek in Florida. It would be interesting to see.

I'm also thinking if this is the new strategy the Dems are using. Some are coming out with hard hitting commercials. However, what if they are having Obama going to several rallies in the next month in different States and in affecting getting that motivation back in the Dem party---the base that doesn't post on DU. And then come out with hard hitting ads in the last two-three weeks before the election.

I think they've come to realize that the major body of Americans do listen to the President, even those who hate him. It's like that guy who thought Rachel Maddow (Madcow) was a vampire. He doesn't like her but he watches her. They watch and they listen and I think those who do support the President do stand by him---even more so when he speaks. They trust him and know he's been hindered.

I realize there are a few Dems here who think it's better to stay home and not vote---as though they're punishing the Dems. Sadly what they don't seem to realize they're doing is that they're not really punishing Dems...they're punishing themselves and their punishing this nation. We have a horrible economy and we have Dems who voted against extending unemployment. Do you think that if you stay home and not vote and by some chance allow a Republican to win your district that they'd extend unemployment?! No. That means that if you're one of the ones who has unemployment or could be on unemployment or has family who might and are on it and suffering will get it when a Repub is in power...think again.

For all the women, and I know there are strong minded progressive women on this site and I know a few who are not on this site who are horribly disappointed by Obama for various reasons. Do you think by not voting for Dem or even Obama in 2012 this is the right thing to do?! And this is only for those who are thinking of sitting it out or know people who are going to sit it out. We have Republicans who will try to FORCE WOMEN TO HAVE THE CHILD OF THEIR FAMILY MEMBER OR RAPIST.

Get this...on Rachel Maddow's show: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=385&topic_id=509656 There are extreme's who are wanting to set an amendment in some States to make the PILL ILLEGAL!!! And the path these fools are going in, the pill will not be illegal. I personally need it for my health and there are Repub extremists in power who could push these extremes. This is what we're seeing. So if you know people who are threatening to sit it out and their women. It's people like that they would in effect allow into power controlling women's bodies once again.

I realize this post went from being about Obama and how he's rallying the people to me trying to do the same. But these are the things to keep in mind. I'm currently an expat in France and I'm about to organize an absentee ballot information session for the students who are here with me. Just because I think it's so important. Or at least give them the information if I can't get the chance to do the meeting. Because really, everyone needs to vote like they did in 2008 and we have a lot of things we want to do. We can't let the Repubs get the seats they want.

I'm glad Obama is out there and I'm sure he will be out there to every state with elections this month---to rally behind the Dem candidate. But we also have to get off are butts and get together rather than waste our energy on divisive posts and what people in the WH says about Dems. Because really, it's not the WH I'm worried about---I strongly believe they have the best interests of the citizenry at heart. I'm worried about what the right is saying and doing---because they are turning us against each other and I see in the posts on this sight and comments made. But also, the extent their extremist puppet candidates will go to destroy not only the US from moving forward from religious-inspired backwardness but they're intentionally going after destroying the rights of Women, and ignoring the rights of all minorities.

Aye to OBAMA---
I LOVE YOU, TOO!!!

3. I wish I could rec this 100 times.
Your thoughts are great! This is the President who is right where he needs to be in time, who can keep us the Republic we were made to be. The worst thing would be to let these fringe elements govern, they are crazy. They are out for a theocracy and will put us back to the 50s where they live in their time-stopped minds. Women everywhere should hate the idea of a Republican running their lives, because that's what they'll do. One by one they will take away the independence we've fought for.

too, Mr. President!!

4. Excellent post
You make a good point that having Obama out there for a series of big rallies in the democratic strongholds of the states with close races (or races like Feingold's that need a big push) would be good. It could drastically change the "enthusiasm gap" and make it hard for the media to continue speaking of it.

It may not alter the media perception of the "enthusiasm gap" - after all they gave hundreds of hours of coverage to the tea party convention that Palin spoke at - that brought out 600 people. However, if he does energize the Democratic strongholds enough to get people to work to GOTV and to personally vote, the gap disappears anyway. Any number of polls show us winning the RV, but losing (or narrowing winning) the LV.

One caution: Obama can not make a bad candidate win. He had a wonderful rally that a daughter and I attended in NJ, but he was not on the ballot - Corzine was and he could not transfer his popularity. The same with him appearing in the last week for Martha Coakley. What he can do is speak of what has been done and what they want to do. While many already know what has already been done, many don't.

5. I agree. I think Meek is a good candidate with no popularity.
But yup...I think so. The MSM will always be against O, but luckily he can turn the tides on many things without having to worry about media influence.

8. Rachel's slip of the tongue at the end sums up the M$M in a nutshell.
"then we wouldn't have jobs". Refreshingly honest. The paid media, right or left, all cash paychecks from the same guys, and they all have the same mission. All their advertisers represent the same corporations that are routinely denounced on sites like this, but all our media has a financial motive, A-D-V-E-R-T-I-S-I-N-G $$$$$.

AFAIC, none of them serves the public good, they serve their corporate masters, and that includes MSNBC & HuffPo. It's all about the Benjamins, people. Sam Stein couldn't let this opportunity pass without going on another whine about "hippie punching". Get the fuck over it already, Sam. Grow the set that you seem to think this president doesn't have.

9. THe Madison rally was a photoshopped myth....
or so it seems around here... there are about 10-15 threads (with huge rec's) about the president sucking ass,

It seems as if we're being repetitiously told we should get even with the failures of the democratic party by discouraging any enthusiasm for voting the democratic candidates.
