There goes her Hispanic Outreach.

There goes her Independent appeal.

Hell, the Teabaggers are even going to be pissed because she was employing an Illegal.

Someone start the ten count.
Meg's toe up.

Update: It's hitting the MSM like a wildfire. Burn, baby, burn!

131. I'm still thinking
It's more important to object to the fact she's wasting over a hundred million of her own money to run for office. This should be illegal. The only avenue we have to punish people, who are nothing like us economically, who can not relate at all to us, is to leave them unelected at the end, with an hundred million dollar hole in their budget.

18. She's a famous lawyer who went from feminist to straight up annoying. I think
what did it for me is when she represented the family of a little girl in elementary school who was kissed by a boy in her grade. The family was suing for sexual harassment. maybe somebody can correct me if I got the details wrong. She's like a rich version of that Simpson's lawyer Lionel Hutz.

100. She appeared in the movie "Rat Race"' as a self parody

A woman trips on a drinking glass in a Vegas casino staircase, and Allred appears out of nowhere offering to represent the woman in a suit against the casino.

The way she operates is the precise public image of everything that is wrong with the legal profession

102. ...because courts care so much about how well a lawyer conducts a press conference

In fact, at most trials, the court usually decides the case on which side got the last word in on Larry King Live or Nancy Grace. Judges give extra points if you can get at least a half hour on CNN in prime time.

97. What "consideration it deserves"?

Allred leeches into these things to get a quick kill of a settlement in situations that would be extortion, but for a lawyer.

She got a chunk of change early on in the Tiger Woods situation by pimping the silence of one of his mistresses in exchange for tall cash.

Look at the facts here. This maid was fired in June 2009. Where has she been all this time - cold storage?

Now, look at what the maid is saying. The maid says she was fired when she told Whitman she was illegal. There's nothing wrong with that. That's a story that needs some "help". So, if you know Whitman will pay large to settle a nuisance claim quick, then you sit down with the maid, go fishing for anything grievance you can exaggerate as a claim, throw in the self-contradictory "Whitman knew" allegation, and then you have something Whitman will pay fast to dispose. As the lawyer, you pocket up to 45%.

I know that most folks are impressed with bullshit, but REAL lawyers don't give press conferences and talk show appearances over their own pending cases. That's what makes Allred a "high profile lawyer" to legally naive celebrity airheads.

And Feminist, strong women, like Gloria, are just loud-mouth 'b*tches' like HRC. Get it?

Do you see all the DUers getting all in a huff over Gloria? They suffer from SWIHASD syndrome. It's actually very sad.

Hope that helps.

Gloria has been around for a long time and has helped many women...and some men, too.

This will probably be deleted because the Oppressed Class isn't allowed Free Speech.....just the dudes have this right. Get it?

The idea that anyone who spends quality time here could post this -- on DU, many of male 'lefties' don't feel women need representation. They're just not human enough. -- and apparently believe it . . . I don't know what.

Have you ever heard of the logical fallacy called the "straw man" (oops, straw PERSON to you no doubt)?

Because that's biggest one I've seen here in helluva long time . . .

And finally, I guess you didn't get the memo: feminist women don't need to attack people born with an X and Y chromosome anymore. It's passe.

152. Oh, yes, you hit a nerve alright. 20 years of getting called "the enemy" and "potential rapist"
because I have a Y chromosome.

The feminist movement crashed-and-burned as soon as its ideology hardened into dogmatism: "women can only be truly liberated in a lesbian relationship," "Playboy magazine promotes rape, violence against women, and child sexual abuse" (see Andrea Dworkin), and "all heterosexual intercourse is rape."

Taping real men's names ripped out of a phone book to telephone poles under the heading "POTENTIAL RAPISTS" also did little to win hearts and minds.

You notice the young women aren't really into knee-jerk man-hating anymore. Guess that was a losing tack.

I'd bet the farm that Meg knew she was employing an illegal. I know how these rich, self-entitled, SELFISH AND GREEDY people operate. The mere fact that she employed this woman for sooooooooooooooooo long and then boots her out when the campaign starts tells you something, DOESN'T IT????????

I hope Allred draws blood on this. I don't like rich, self-entitled, people who treats others worse than they treat their pets.

If by "winning" you mean actually taking a case to trial.

She understands the dynamic of extracting large settlements from defendants who don't want to go to trial regardless of the merits.

The election is a month away, and Whitman needs to dispose of this case immediately. See my post above on how Allred operates. She couldn't actually try a traffic ticket.

41. She was fired after the woman asked for help to get a green card PLUS
She was paid for 15 hours a week when she worked significantly more -- she became the Nanny AND the house keeper with no raise, more hours and still paid for 15 hours a week at 23$ an hour

She was not given family leave when she had a child.... The woman is looking for back pay, and milage pay.

And as far as that Green card issue? The woman worked for Whitman for about 9 years. Social Security Administration allegedly contacted Whitman about SS# indiscretions and never did anything about it.

Whitman is claiming she didn;t know she was undocumented, and fired her when she asked Whitman for help.

So no firing someone is not illegal --- but sometimes there are bigger human and moral issues at play.

But she lied and that lie is already being proven false and there is no way that is not going to look terrible. She absolutely fucked herself with this one.

It would look even worse if she was knowingly still employing an illegal immigrant while running her "no illegal, hold employers accountable" campaign.

129. That's not what the maid says

The maid says that she made the admission to Whitman and asked for help with her status.

The thing is, it's very hard to get any help with your status if you are already present illegally (that's what the Dream Act is all about).

If Whitman had known, and had dumped the maid for the sake of her campaign, then she would have just dumped the maid. The maid would not have a narrative about making the admission to Whitman and then being fired.

Those parts of the maid's allegations seem contradictory to me.

It's amazing how many people use one of Allred's unproven allegations as proof of another one.

Of course the maid wouldn't have Whitman's mail, and this wouldn't be FOIA material either.

In which facts are established by the principle of whether I want to believe them, and all I need to know is their consequences.

I support Jerry Brown and detest Meg Whitman.

That does not, in my mind, render any allegation against Whitman to be true.

If there is hard evidence that Whitman knew, then don't you think it would be good to get that on the table, so that nobody could dismiss this as a she-said/she-said dispute?

Or would you prefer that the accusation remain deniable? Whose side are YOU on?

The maid's story contradicts itself.

On the one hand, she says that Whitman knew, because of the letter from the SSA.

Then, she says she was fired for telling Whitman she was illegal.

Do you want to fit those pieces together?

Allred is a settlement chaser, and could not try a case to save her life.

So I'm thinking that this will certainly get more of us leaning Democratic. Keeping my fingers crossed.

God's Earth would Whitman come up with that kind of cash? As it is now, she has to scavenge for loose change down at the bus station, and from what I've heard, she has no idea where her next meal is coming from. She sloughs across the California landscape in tattered rags, a world-weary look on her downcast face, tears streaming from her eyes like torrents.

There's talk that she has turned inward, despite the pain of hunger and the spiritual desolation, and has begun responding to internal stimuli. She reportedly hears the voices of the Texas State Chamber of Commerce. It's an odd case. The shrinks are perplexed.

Person is here legally.

I don't see how blasting this across the media doesn't make people leery of hiring someone who looks like they are here illegally. Whitman tried to do it the right way by hiring through an agency and asking for copies of documentation and she still gets whacked for it.

And does this woman realize she has incriminated herself in ID theft and forgery? How has she not made herself deportable?

81. You can ask the government, and pay attention to their answers.

As far as deporting the mother of a young American citizen, there's a whole mess of issues involved in that as well.

157. We have a lot of undocumented Russians in Oregon.
"White" and "English" aren't great indicators.

134. Asking for damning, cold, hard, undeniable evidence is not "defending" anyone

I would like to see something in black and white that demonstrates Whitman knew about the situation before the firing.

You, I see, would rather not see that, and want Whitman to have deniability on this issue.

Uhmmm... sure.

142. Non-sequitur much?

The issue in a lot of legal situations is intent.

This is not an "ignorance of the law" situation, it is a claimed ignorance of facts indicating intent.

EXAMPLE:

1. You and I are in an airport. You put down your suitcase. I come up from behind you and take your suitcase, knowing it is yours, and walk away. I have stolen your suitcase.

2. You and I are in an airport. You put down your suitcase. I had put mine down a moment ago, and then I pick up yours, mistakenly believing it is mine, and walk away. I have NOT stolen your suitcase.

The difference between those two situations is criminal intent. Go Google "mens rea".

In situation 1, I have stolen your suitcase whether I am ignorant of the law of theft or not. In situation number 2 my sincere belief that the suitcase was mine negates criminal intent.

I want to see Meg Whitman nailed to the wall here. That's why I want to see proof that she knew.

Not "she should have known" or "she could have known"... I want her nailed but good.

151. The issue in a lot of political situations is reputation.
Your example changes a bit if I am running for public office and the incident is used to cast aspersions on my character. Headlines scream "Klook (D-GA) Denies Stolen Briefcase Accusations!"

Obviously my opponent will be happier if I'm put behind bars or lose a lawsuit. But they'd be pretty happy, too, if voters question my integrity.

You and I agree that seeing Whitman nailed to the wall is the best possible outcome, and I am in no way suggesting we all do the happy dance and say "Woo-Hoo! We've won!!" I'm just saying what has happened so far is a good start.

154. Did you see the documentation?! The woman didn' t provide a Green Card
There were no government documents I saw provided. A Green Card is needed for non-citizens. It is the proof of work because they are registered with the department of homeland security. No green card then it's bogus and if Whitman had these bogus papers from 2000, then willfully knowing the woman didn't provide a green card as proof of work eligibility she's guilty of hiring an illegal while knowing she's an illegal.
