Military Chief Warns Against Cuts in Personnel Budget

The military’s top officer warned Wednesday that budget cuts affecting the size and structure of the U.S. armed forces would be “dangerous,” given current wartime requirements

“We need to fund the war we are in because I have people on the front line sacrificing their lives,” Mullen said.

But as lawmakers look to trim record budget deficits, defense is an obvious target. It consumes roughly half of the annual discretionary spending appropriated by Congress. And personnel costs — pay and benefits, essentially — account for 60 percent to 70 percent of the Pentagon’s annual spending.

1. No, no, he's right
We shouldn't ask people to sacrifice their lives if we aren't willing to fund it.

So bring 'em home. We're outta money for any more wars of choice.

2. Maintain the budget for those fighting.
Doesn't mean that the brass jerks and their staff can't have their salary reduced.

The same goes for anyone that does not serve in combat action. At the very least there should be an analysis to determine whether their salaries should be reduced, kept the same, or increased. For the most part those in top level supervisory/executive positions should not have their salary increased.

3. there is always a reason to fund the bloated military budget--except for the health care of
actual human being in the military.
