(R)asmussen Reports WI Senate--Johnson (R) 54% Feingold (D) 42% |
|
Republican Ron Johnson now leads incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold by 12 points in Wisconsin’s race for the U.S. Senate.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Johnson picking up 54% support, while Feingold, who is running for his fourth term in the Senate, gets 42% of the vote with leaners included. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and two percent (2%) more are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The latest numbers move this race to Leans Republican from a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Balance of Power rankings.
Two weeks ago, Johnson held a 51% to 44% lead including leaners just after his decisive win in the GOP primary. The latest numbers signal a continuing deterioration in Feingold's support after it held steady at 46% in surveys from May through August. Support for Johnson ranged from 44% to 48% in the same period but has been just as gradually increasing in recent weeks

7. That a discouraging poll would pop out just as liberal groups are ponying up for Russ? |
|
Mere coincidence. :sarcasm:

10. Then there are a number of other BS polls there |
|
Because it's not too far out of line with other recent polls. The Kos/PPP poll from a bit over a week ago was virtually identical.
I doubt that he actually loses by 12, but I also doubt he wins.
Feingold's support has actually been pretty consistently in the low-mid 40s for months now. The margin has rested on whether the marginally undecided identify themselves as such or as Johnson voters.

There are few states where progressives alone could get it done.
Even with a big surge between 2004 and 2008, only 40% of the people in Wisconsin even considered themselves Democrats. Of course not even all of those are progressive.

14. So then you're saying that progressives need to not bash moderates since they are needed? Hm..... |

15. Lets see where it goes after Oct. 8 |
|
which is when the first of three debates between the two happens. Johnson has deep, deep, deep pockets - his own and the outside corporate powers. What he doesn't have, however, are any damn ideas. So far, when he's live and unscripted, the guy is a train wreck. I suspect a poll taken after the debates begin will show an uptick for Russ. It isn't a sure thing, though. I work in the most depressing bowels of Tea-Kettle land (immediately outside Madison), and the hatred - not dislike, disagreement, disgruntlement, unhappiness or dissatisfaction - but real, visceral, venemous hatred of Obama, Democrats, Liberal, Progressives, Incumbants and anyone associated with them is palpable. Maybe sanity and reason will prevail.
