DU, I want to make this CRYSTAL CLEAR |
|
I hope I do not see people banding together to attack posters because they consider them to be one thing of the other. If you don't like something some one posted hit Alert on it and move the fuck on and let the Mods handle it. But if you don't like them just because of some perceived whatever put them on ignore, or take a break.
I swear I had no clue that people liked or didn't like certain threads based on who posted it. I never look @ who posts stuff. I just respond to what they post. I am totally shocked! Am I seeing the real DU here cuz if so It is a dayum shame.
I've seen 2 posts on the same topic and the OPs were treated differently based on who one was and what they thought the headline should be.
We don't do lockstep or am I wrong? What am I seeing people.
Y'all need to get a fucking grip and realize that while you're stalking particular posters to attack you're not out canvasing and calling to make sure we win in November.
RECOGNIZE!

with respect to the increasing tendency for some DUers to "pack" and descend on a lone poster to bully unmercifully with virtually no let up--even ignoring when that poster clarifies in such a way to make their perception irrelevant. This happens in certain forums more often than others, but I hadn't really thought about whether it was based on pack behavior towards a certain person. That is even more disturbing.

I agree...I have not seen it specifically myself, but i have heard of this practice and it really makes me wanna :puke:
This is a forum, much like a public square, if you want to heckle someone, realize it really makes YOU look like the asshole. I have learned alot here over the past 2 years and have been able to vent and get emotional about things that I don't get to speak about with my family & friends...namely poverty and unemployment. I have experienced some folks here that are just downright mean, no matter what or who they are talking to. Maybe they should be alerted on, maybe I just choose to ignore it, or maybe i will defend myself or the person in question. depends on how much coffee i have had and how much i know about the topic. And even though we have alot of different dems here - we *should* remember that we're all really on the same side. but you are so very right, this shit needs to stop, i have other friends here who stay in some of the smaller forums because they can't venture into GD without getting picked on...

6. I totally agree, Xultar |

I've noticed that myself.
One thing which is interesting and to me, very positive, about Democratic Underground is that I'd found when I read and follow the posts by some members whose opinions seemed 'oppositional' to my own, I'd open up to where they are coming from if they are generally polite when they disagree with me. I may not agree with ProSense or Jefferson's Ghost on every aspect of an issue, but their opinions and topics are always worth reading. And I've come around to better understanding where they are coming from. Grant Cart, too, who is the soul of good manners. :-)

24. Sorry, but I have to comment on this since one of the two threads you're talking about |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 09:56 PM by jenmito
was started by me. The difference was not that we were posters liked or not liked by others. The difference was the characterization of the links we both posted, as they were both the same link.
I just posted the fact that Gallup took a poll of a hypothetical match-up. And once I realized it was divisive, I requested it be locked. The other poster misrepresented the same link about a hypothetical match-up as Hillary gearing up for a presidential run. It was misleading and that poster has a long history of wishing Obama wouldn't have won and is against him to this day.

25. I didn't interpret it as gearing up for a campaign because the post quoted |
|
a sentence from the poll making it clear that it was a hypothetical. I believe xultar had a similar reaction. That makes me wonder how much of the "long history" you refer to is real and how much of it is a case of people wearing their primary-colored glasses. I thought we took those off two years ago.

I didn't see the "title" of his thread in that article. The poster wrote in his subject line that Hillary was starting the race for 2012 as if it were for sure: "Hillary starts the race for the 2012 Democratic nomination 15 points behind Obama." And if you look back as recently as yesterday, you'd see "some" have not yet taken those glasses off.
