Quote of the Day

"They want to give all the power to the federal government to force you to eat more fruits and vegetables. This is what the federal, CDC, they gonna be calling you to make sure you eat fruits and vegetables, every day. This is socialism of the highest order!"

-- Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), quoted by Think Progress, discussing some of Washington's "big problems" at a town hall meeting.

4. I agree.
But it's even worse to think that there are people who are dumb enough to actually "VOTE" for these idiots! Now I can understand those with little or no education falling for BS like this, or people who are old and in some stage of dementia, but the rest of them, well all I can say is they have to be pretty stupid to buy into this crap!

8. All they have to do is attach "socialism" to whatever they say
and there are many, many frightened idiots out there who will vote for them. What are they frightened of? They don't even know.

3. I really can't believe that people would actually think
that the Feds are going to call them weekly to find out what they have been eating...what a joke...these people have no concept of how the world works or even how long it would take to call 300,000,000 people to see what they ate...dumb, dumb, dumb...

6. Yet Republican-style Capitalism is when...
...the Execitive Branch cuts funding for school lunches, and when schools can no longer afford fresh fruits and vegetables, the Administration declares that ketchup now qualifies as a vegetable.

19. Family values: Broun's son was arrested AGAIN last week...
The 19-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Paul Broun was arrested Friday night in downtown Athens and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, the third time in two years Paul Collins Broun III has faced drug or alcohol charges.

An Athens-Clarke police officer stopped Broun for running the red light at East Clayton Street and College Avenue about 11:30, according to a police report. The officer smelled burnt marijuana and noticed Broun's eyes were red and droopy.

Broun told the officer that his friends smoke marijuana but he doesn't anymore and that he had taken prescription medication at 9 p.m., according to the report. An officer later found a nearly empty bottle of a prescription filled on Tuesday, a bag for a prescription filled on Thursday and an unfilled prescription; he seized them all as evidence.

When an officer asked if he would submit to a blood test, Broun replied that he would take a breath test, but not a blood test.

The officer arrested Broun and charged him with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to present his license and running a red light. As the officer left the Clarke County Jail about an hour later, he noted the car "still wreaked of the odor of burnt marijuana left from the subject."

Broun was not charged in connection with the prescription medication, but in inventorying the evidence, the officer found that the pills in the bottle were a higher dosage than the label showed.

It's not the first time the younger Broun has been in trouble with the law.

He was arrested in April 2009 outside a party on West Cloverhurst Avenue when Athens-Clarke police responded to a 2:30 a.m. noise complaint.

He smelled of alcohol and marijuana and had a pill bottle in his pocket containing a small amount of marijuana, according to a police report. Police said they also found a small glass pipe containing ash and bits of marijuana in Broun's SUV. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, underage drinking and a noise violation.

He also was stopped in September 2008 at a Georgia State Patrol roadblock on U.S. Highway 441, and told a trooper he was drinking Evan Williams whiskey straight, according to the DUI citation the trooper issued.

Broun had a 0.054 blood-alcohol level, court documents said, and was charged with DUI-under 21 and DUI-less safe.

Congressman Broun, R-Athens, has struggled with alcohol in the past. He has openly discussed his drinking problems, but says they ended in the 1980s when he became a born-again Christian.

A phone message left at the local home of the congressman, who also is a physician, was not returned Saturday evening.

23. As one physician to another ...
I actually sent him a FAX explaining that fruits and vegetables are good for us. And if he disagreed, he could just shove an eggplant up "Where the Sun Don't Shine!"

And here's a candid photo of him checking on that:
