5. Another one where she talked about how she "dabbled in witchcraft" and would have become a Buddhist |
|
except for the fact that she couldn't become a vegetarian. She said she is Italian and loves her meatballs too much.

13. Quite committed there! |

But, if she is speaking of a time when she was a teen, this really is well within the norm. I know many thoughtful teens, looking for something spiritual to believe in who looked at various religions. Some, very seriously - reading extensively and attending services of different religions. This is a time for seeking identity and part of that can be challenging what - if anything - they believe in. My middle daughter, who graduated with a degree in Religious Studies, seriously investigated both her own religion, with the help of the Rabbi who recommended many books, and other religions.
In O'Donnell's case, she clearly did not have that level of intellectual commitment, but there clearly was a search for something to define her identity - and that desire, along with her limited self awareness and lack of thoughtfulness, is likely what led her to the radically RW evangelical organizations that she became part of. She sounds like a young person looking for a cult, the opposite of what someone seriously searching for meaning would want. Too bad that she wasn't given some truly delicious pecan meatballs - she would be less dangerous as a Buddhist.
