President Obama Extends Stop-Loss Benefits

President Obama Extends Stop-Loss Benefits

by noweasels

A week ago, Vietnam veteran DaNang65 wrote this amazing diary about his efforts to educate his fellow veterans about the important monetary benefits available to those who were stop-lossed.

In that diary, he cautioned his fellow veterans that the time to apply for those benefits was set to end on October 21.

Today, President Obama extended that deadline to December 3rd.

<...>

September 15, President Obama said:

“You served with honor. You did your duty. And when your country called on you again, you did your duty again. Now, it's time to collect the special pay that you deserve.”

Today, our President extended time to claim those benefits to December 3.

To receive this benefit, those who served under stop loss must submit a claim for the special pay. Throughout the year, the services have been reaching out to servicemembers, veterans and their families through direct mail, veteran service organizations, and the media. But there is still money left to be claimed, and the deadline is approaching. The average benefit is $3,700.

<...>

If you, or someone you know, is owed stop-loss benefits, go here to read about how to claim them.

And please pass the word!

Thank you, President Obama!

6. My wife walked into the grocery store today
and stopped at the table where a veteran was selling calendars. He said he was stationed in Germany during the Cuban missile crisis, facing hundreds of tanks from across the fence. Many of his fellow soldiers were packed and in line to return home when their papers were stamped 'denied' and they were held over until the crisis was over.

This vet was telling people how thankful he was that Obama was president because he has done more for vets than anyone in recent memory. He particularly mentioned health benefits.

She bought the calendar.
