Is the Dem base awakening?

Is the Dem base awakening?

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse sends over some new, as-yet-unreleased details about the DNC's $16 million fundraising haul in September that Dems will be touting today as proof that the "enthusiasm gap" is closing.

* The DNC pulled in "the most low-dollar donations of any month since the end of the campaign."

* The September haul included "over 50 percent more low-dollar donations than August."

* And "97 percent of all donations were $200 or less."

Drawing conclusions about the midterm elections from these numbers seems like a tricky business. But one thing is clear: Dems now seem heavily committed to pushing back against the enthusiasm gap idea as process story.

Both the White House and Dems will undertake a concerted effort in the days ahead to challenge the deeply-ingrained media narrative about the lackluster Dem base, and to make the case that the Dem base is awakening, in hopes of turning that into a self-fulfilling prophesy.

1. The base has been awake all along....
Sometimes it's better to walk softly and carry a big stick.

4. Perhaps some of us were sick of the narrative that was being pushed?
I sure as hell was. I think we've known all along that it was never "the base" that suffered an "enthusiasm gap". The problem we suffer from is that every leftist gets associated with the Democratic Party. Some on the left hate the Democratic Party as much as, or more than Republicans. Hopefully this news will be inspiring to anyone who has felt demoralized these past few months. Rec.

15. I think everyone started talking about the midterms way too soon.
As Obama said, there is time for politicing and time for governing. While he was governing people were upset that he wasn't politicing and the story just mushroomed into another 'dems don't know wtf they are doing'. Very much like the Presidential campaign the Pugs shot their wad way too soon and petered out.

The Pugs are getting some bad press now and the timing for Dems to have more good news is great - I haven't heard quite as much 'the dems are flailing and in trouble' crap on the newshows lately (or am i imagining things?). Someone does know wtf they are doing afterall.

Same round and round, people always forget tho and start sweating and crying and advising and curising. Sure, bad things happen and you can never be sure of anything as there are so many ways to manipulate polls, stack the press, all that, but we have all seen Obama's work and we know he has some pretty sharp cookies helping him out so Let the Games Begin about now, not months ago when the yappers started yapping failure.

17. +1. For good, or for bad, a lot of voters tend to vote on the last thing they saw..
on the teevee the day before they cast their ballot. I'm not saying that the voting public is uninformed, but they certainly can be easily influenced by the talking heads.
