TRENDING: White House denies Obama-Clinton ticket in works
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is pouring cold water on the red-hot speculation, fueled by journalist Bob Woodward in a CNN interview, that President Obama may create a so-called "dream ticket" of Obama-Clinton in his 2012 re-election battle.

"No one in the White House is discussing this as a possibility," Gibbs told CNN Wednesday morning.

The speculation that Obama may dump Vice President Joe Biden as his running mate and shift him over to the Secretary of State job in favor of Clinton was sparked by Woodward in an interview Tuesday night with CNN Chief National Correspondent John King.

"It's on the table," Woodward said on John King, USA. "Some of Hillary Clinton's advisers see it as a real possibility in 2012."

This would be a good thing, I think.

1. Some of Hillary Clinton's advisers see it as a real opportunity

to get back into positions of power instead of being on the outside looking in.

I recall the same implicit advice from the Establishment to new comers Jack Kennedy and Jimmy Carter that they should step aside and let the experts run things. Both gentlemen did best when they ignored the experts and went with their own gut feelings. Both gentlemen ran into problems when they followed the Establishment advice.

6. I was surprised that on the eve of the JFK convention, Eleanor Roosevelt
was calling for a Stevenson/Kennedy ticket - forcefully and often. (I watched Day 1 of the convention coverage at the Paley Center (which used to called the Broadcast Museum) in NYC. It was fascinating - on many different levels. I hadn't remembered (or maybe ever known) that Frank Church, was the keynote speaker.

5. Yeah, three weeks before a critical election, let's hyperfocus on nonsense.
Woodward is in the business of selling books.

It's interesting to watch the Hillary hawks push this. Aren't they satisfied with her position as Secretary of State? Not enough power?

7. The timing is fascinating - the Democarts have gained some traction getting the truth out on things
like healthcare, which still needs a HUGE amount of discussion.

This is an attempt for another operation chaos - they want Democrats to start taking sides between Biden and Clinton - attacking the less preferred of the two. I really doubt people genuinely close to Clinton are part of this.

in their efforts to elevate the perception of Hillary's contributions at the expense of others whose accomplishments and career are far more progressive and far more notable.

16. Heck, it's more powerful than the Vice Presidency
The Vice Presidency in itself isn't much.

8. Because there is nothing more important to speak of than a vague rumor propagated by a reporter who
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 09:50 AM by Mass
is the prototype villager, and sourced by unnamed Hillary Clinton advisers.

So, now, instead of fighting for the midterms and for making things better, the White House has to spend time refuting this.

10. Who here actually believes much Bob Woodward has to say anymore?
I'd better be hearing crickets, people.

Woodward makes a living through gossip! If things he hears aren't juicy enough, he'll make shit up.

13. Again? "Clinton advisors" would never keep floating this w/o approval by the Clintons themselves.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 10:09 AM by ClarkUSA
This reminds me of the time right after President Obama won the party's nomination. "Clinton advisors" started pushing for Hillary to be on the ticket almost immediately, much to the dismay of Team Obama and the rest of the political world who weren't PUMAs.

It's pretty obvious that despite protestations to the contrary, Hillary and Bill are still yearning to be co-presidents again, Joe Biden be damned.

Biden better watch his back.

19. Source: "Some of Hillary Clinton's advisers see it as a real possibility in 2012."
A possibility that exists mostly in their heads.
