CNN/Time Poll: Blunt (R) well ahead of Carnahan (D) in MO
Blunt Holds Wide Lead Over Carnahan
A new CNN/Time/Opinion Research poll in Missouri shows Roy Blunt (R) with a double digit lead over Robin Carnahan (D) in U.S. Senate race, 53% to 40%.

Explains pollster Keating Holland: "Blunt is achieving what many Republicans can only wish for - he has nearly a majority of the women's vote in Missouri. Among women it's 49% for Blunt and just 44% for Carnahan. That's bad news for any Democrat, but for a Democratic woman, it's a major problem."

12. "Missouri was won by Republican nominee John McCain by a 0.1% margin of victory."

"Missouri likes GOP koolaid."
Wonderful addition with absolutely no factual basis to the conversation, Frenchie. :sarcasm:

4. I don't think Carnahan has run much of a campaign
and her wish to see the Bush Tax Cuts extended certainly didn't sit well with me. I will vote straight Dem in November which will include her, but she is not a candidate that I find to my liking.

7. You know, we're not going to win every race out there this year.
My feeling is that we're going to easily, easily hold the House & Senate and that we're going to do well in Governorships as well. But no one ever bats 1000, and this year is no different.

There's no "major problem" here because Carnahan is a woman. The numbers just aren't there in this swing-leans-right state.

Now, if Barbara Boxer was in trouble that would be something else.

11. I don't either

She was close in another recent poll. And I don't believe that women favor him over Carnahan.

9. I think there is a backlash against political families
While Blunt may have a family history of politics, there are currently 2 Carnahans in very visible political offices here, plus the ads are hitting her hard on her brother getting over 100 million in stimulus funds for a wind farm project.

When all you hear in the ads is Carnahans, I think people who are struggling economically are going to say enough.

17. Its on tv constantly.
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/09/30/wind-farm-generates-heat-for-carnahans/

And it probably doesn't help that a cousin, or at least the tv kept saying that he's a cousin, was just convicted of murder. Bad timing for Robin's campaign.

Hasn't done much to appeal to urban minority voters, trying to appeal to much to rural white voters will most will vote for Papa Blunt no matter what. I'd pull out and shift the $ to Wisconsin if I was in charge of the DSCC
