Bernie Sanders, join Dean and Krugman under the pure bus. Obama is there since January
Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Rachel Maddow last night that the Senate deal may be stronger than the watered-down public options being considered. "I think it is not fair to simply say they're abandoning the public option. What you're looking at is trade-offs, which in fact at the end of the day may be stronger than the very weak public options that both the House and the Senate have already passed."

2. The compromise doesn't use the magic words "Public Option".
No spell is effective unless uttered correctly.

All those Harry Potter books and movies and no one's learned anything.

8. I agree! And this can be a pathway for doing that.
Just as the public option was appealing to progressives for a similar reason.

From Day One the goal after (if) this bill passes will be to lower the Medicare age limit, gradually down to no age limit.

7. I like the MEDICARE option better than the watered down PO. I think if should be for EVERYONE and
they should eliminate any requirement for individuals to buy private insurance.

11. Shitty Senate deal less shitty than mere shell of a P.O. ...
So if a national system like England is a 100 and the status quo is zero, we have moved to 20. Maybe. A mere shell of a public option would have been 18, while a robust P.O. that anyone can join is a 30.

34. put it in perspective. after decades and decades of 0, you get 20.
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 09:11 PM by dionysus
while we want 100, looking at it that way 20 is good. after decades of republicans screwing up the country in many ways, we end up thinking we can get it all in a year once we get a Democrat back as president. and we can't.

26. Leftbaggers?
What, exactly does that term mean to you?

If you're comparing some of your fellow DUers to the teabaggers, then I take it that you think we are racists, bigots, etc., because, for the most part, that's what teabaggers are.

IS that what you mean? If it isn't, please explain. Thanks.

24. Sanders is right. This is much
better than any of the proposed public options in the either HELP committee or the Congressional bills. This is much more direct progress to universal Medicare. Since Medicare admin structure is already in place expanded Medicare stands a much greater chance of success than a new entity that will probably be sloppiy administered.

32. No you tiotally don get (or want to get) what merits being under the bus
Your cute little post reveals a compoete misunderstanding (or unwillingess to understand) why some people criticize the behavior of some Democrats.

Bernie has been stalwart and fought hard for meaningfukl health reform. If at the end of the day, he decides to go with the only alternative as better than nothing, he will still have the respect of many.

Those who get criticized -- or "thrown under the bus" in your snide phrase -- are those who obviously either did not want meaningful health reform or who caved in without a fight.
