As of Oct 6th BUT if you listen to the pundits you would think he's about to loose in 2012 http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/obama-approval-reagan-clinton-poll-data/

3. The difference is that no other president has dropped as much in the polls in such a short time.
Neither Reagan nor Clinton started their presidencies with a 68% approval rate. Reagan was at 51% and Clinton was at 58%.

Reagan may have started his presidency with a 51% rating, but it shot up to as high as 68% by the beginning of May 1981, just over 3 months later.

Then it plummeted to 35% by the end of January 1983.

That's a 33% drop in 20 months (from beginning of May 1981 to end of January 1983).

5. The Democrats Did "Loose" 54 Seats In Clinton's First Mid Term

The Republicans did "loose" 26 Seats in the House in Reagan's first mid term but they didn't control it anyway.

6. To be fair, I don't think there are too many people who think Obama will lose in 2012.
The prospective crop of GOP candidates isn't great. Unless they dig up a dark horse, Obama will beat any of the current prospects.

If there is a real economic recovery with concomitant job growth President Obama will be reelected and his margin of victory will be positively related to the strength of the recovery; the more robust the recovery the larger the margin of victory.

If there is no economic recovery and no job growth President Obama will not be reelected and his margin of defeat will be negatively related to the strength of the economy; the more anemic the recovery or lack of one the larger the margin of defeat.

Everything else is commentary.
