The Repubs are going completely fucking apoplectic over it. I think the Dems blindsided them with this.

Let's recap:
NewJeffCT: "This is a slam dunk issue. I hope the Dems keep on the attack on this." whathehell: "It's the BEST!!!... Now, let us just hope they don't snatch victory from the jaws of defeat...again." Demwing: "Strike that. Reverse it."
In other words, "Let us just hope they don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...again."
I was enthusiastically agreeing with you, or with what I thought you were trying to say. Why the scorn?

Honest....It can be hard to discern intent here.
I took your message to be "corrective" and that's okay, but because it was so short and to the point, it seemed "snarky" to me...Now I know you were not intending that, so I'm glad you "called me out" on it.
As I'm sure you know, there can be a LOT of snark on this board, and sometimes it comes out of the blue.....You don't even have to earn it!.
So excuse my patronizing reply...and thanks again for clearing things up. :hi:

if it was paid for with "dirty foreign money."
The D strategy here was brilliant. In effect, they have turned every R ad (whether paid for with foreign $ or not) into an anti-R ad.
It's like exposing steroid use in an athlete - everything they do (past or present) once the cat is out of the bag is looked upon as being questionable at best, cheating at worst.

36. true - I'v never heard of the CA Buddhists working hard to facilitate sending jobs abroad |
|
The problem is that some of that money did originate overseas, but as I said There was no way that Gore accepting the check could have known. It was the campaign's job to handle that and report everything correctly.
I think the depth of the corporate efforts against Democrats reflects the fact that the Democrats' legislation - weak though some here saw it - really did anger them. That and the fact that they think (and they may be right) that they can elect enough Republicans to make the Bush income and estate tax cuts permanent.

When you factor in that Bahrain, the financial heart of the Middle East and holding a huge amount of petro dollars, is one of the largest foreign contributors to the Chamber. And think of how that hurts American businesses wanting to expand into green energy.

(Personally, I think it shows Roberts acted on PERSONAL convictions, something he said during his confirmation hearing he would absolutely NOT do. I mean, it had little to nothing to do with the case. Impeach the bastard! He lied during his hearing! WHEN oh when is someone gonna challenge this absurd Corporations = persons crap? 20. Ah but here is the genius part of the D's attack, it doesn't matter if the CoC cooks the books |
|
by accepting foreign money they freed up money, so instead of using the funds for say office equipment of their own the CoC uses those funds to pay for attack ads because the CoC can make it up with foreign money. So it really doesn't matter if the CoC spends money from foreign countries directly or not because the foreign money allows them to free money up for attack ads which means the same thing foreign money is being used to buy elections.
Without the foreign money the CoC couldn't run those attack ads, so they can't defend it by saying well we aren't using foreign money because reality is they are either spend their money then use foreign money to spend on things their money would have went on instead of attack ads or the foreign money is being used to buy ads, either way it is foreign money that allows them to run attack ads. Now the foreign money is expecting something from the CoC, it would be interesting to know what the CoC promised these countries in exchange for their money.

If I had ill-gotten money, I could use that to pay for my rent, utilities, groceries, etc., while my legal-money is banked, saved and collecting interest; or used towards the toys I could not ordinarily purchase.
That's essentially what they're doing.
What's the old saying the Right likes to use? If you have nothing to hide ...

29. US Chamber of Outsourcing |
|
Tom Donohue/2004: By taking advantage of greater access in new markets, U.S. companies, particularly manufacturers, have been able to strengthen their bottom lines; reduce consumer prices, focus on more profitable operations, and create new and better jobs here at home.
The Chamber issued two landmark reports on the topics of outsourcing and U.S. competitiveness. Our 2004 report titled "Jobs, Trade, Sourcing, and the Future of the American Workforce," found little hard data to support fears about outsourcing and claims of an impending exodus of U.S. jobs overseas. Our 2006 follow-up report, "Global Engagement: How Americans Can Win and Prosper in the Worldwide Economy", found that overwhelmingly, Americans benefit from the nation's openness to trade; foreign investment, immigrants, and international visitors.
The 2004 report also found U.S. exports directly supported one in every five manufacturing jobs here at home. The U.S. manufacturing sector has been sourcing around the world for over 30 years, during which time our manufacturing output has more than doubled. Some manufacturing workers have lost jobs due to technological advances as well as changes driven by outsourcing and the just-in-time production process. We have supported strong retraining programs to help these workers and will continue to do so.

Tom Donohue doesn't tell you that manufacturing jobs have been reclassified to include making hamburgers at fast food restaurants. Many of the poorly paid over worked McJobs, that only high school kids use to do, are now considered manufacturing jobs.
And exactly where are these new and better jobs here at home? Why do we have a 22% unemployment rate? (if calculated using 1980's statistical methods.)
And we all know that all those employees at outsourced factories are so well paid and so well treated. In fact they are so well treated that mass suicides are occurring at these outsourced locations.

Across the political spectrum, from liberals to the teabaggeratti. I'm sure many teabaggers will dismiss this as left-wing propoganda and political gamesmanship, but there has to be a fair percentage that have to be asking themselves if this is true. On balance, this hurts the GOP in a big way and puts them squarely on the defensive.

56. Let's enjoy this temporary spine |
|
I'm sure it will be gone by after the midterms but I believe our Dems got the message that they needed to turn their anger to the Repugs instead of the Progressives to get the votes.

|
Specifically "An October Surprise"? You know -- just a few weeks before the election?

Now, while we hit them with this find another issue to blindside them with. Because they appear to have unlimited money just as we thought they would after Citizens United.

I don't watch/read M$M but always assume they're cheerleading for the right.
I thought only progressives would know about the issue.

. . . for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to be prosecuted, and put into receivership.
I know, I know, it's wishful thinking! But it would be a glorious outcome.

HOW do we know that terrorist organizations aren't funding this election, pushing cash through all these front groups?
I do believe that the Dept. of Homeland Security should look into this possible breach of American security in an attempt to topple our entire government.
Keep in mind the damage a single hold vote has. It has screwed aid for Haiti, unemployment benefits, etc.
