VFW endorses Boxer; Freeper heads explode
Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 11:26 AM by Enrique
Accenting again the campaign focus she has placed on veterans' affairs, Sen. Barbara Boxer on Sunday formally opened a veterans' center at Pasadena City College and was later brought to tears by a forceful defense of her record by Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, a highly decorated member of Congress.

Inouye joined Boxer for her formal endorsement by the political action committee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, whose California chairman also praised Boxer's work on behalf of veterans.

lots of "WTF"'s.

edit: McCain is angry about it too.

1. To a Freeper, "supporting the troops" means to be pro-war.
They don't understand that Boxer ACTUALLY SUPPORTS the troops. Even after they muster out.

...the troops are only harmed by war. A yellow ribbon means nothing.

Thank you Barbara Boxer.

35. Freepers on ly support the Troops because they are too chickenshit
to join the battle themselves. Conservatives are easily frightened and run away scared. Dickless Cheney and little Billy Kristol are prime examples.

3. That's probably because Boxer knows that "supporting the troops" is more than just flag-waving
during war time.

It's voting for VA healthcare to take care of the veterans.

It's voting for FHA funding to give veterans good rates on good home loans.

It's voting for enhancing troop pay.

It's voting to actually fund veterans' education under the G.I. Bill.

It's voting to actually fund the equipment that troops need to do their daily tasks effectively and as safely as possible. That way, their families don't have to spend $1000 each of their own money on body armor or to outfit their soldiers' humvees with extra armor.

All of those were cut or hampered under Bushie.

8. Example of Freepers supporting veterans:
"I know some vets around here who are stuck on the entitlement train. They are also running around gushing guilt over Vietnam. One of them rants about shooting a 10 year old kid who was about to toss a grenade, and how bad he feels about it. I almost wish the kid had been a little bit faster!"

22. Actions are winning over words (finally!)
The Republican notion of supporting the troops is sending them off to wage an ill-conceived war without proper equipment or body armor. Oh, I guess I forgot about those yellow ribbon magnets. As a legislator, Senator Boxer has been a leader in advocating for veterans, especially those that have service-related disabilities. The GOP has habitually taken veterans for granted, at their peril as Boxer's poll numbers continue to increase.

34. In the past, I used to be practically the only Dem in the Army....
...how times have changed. I'm medically retired now. As a volunteer at Audie Murphy, I made damn sure that all vets knew that it was Rethugs that were marching in lockstep to block unemployment benefits a few months ago. So many of those unemployed are vets coming back from the Gulf. I also made sure that they knew that only one vote got them those benefits back and that a flood of new Rethugs coming into power in the fall would no doubt get them taken away again. That really got their dander up. Hopefully, it will also get them to the polls and make them angry enough to vote Dem for a long time to come. Because you know that a lot of vet programs currently on the chopping blocks will be cut off once those bastards have the necessary votes to do it.

Obama has done more for vets than the last 4 administrations. Some vets know this and people working with the VA know this. The Dems do not promote this as a reason to vote Democratic.
