Dems secret weapon in Iowa? referendum in Iowa City on patrons under 21 allowed in bars
Edited on Mon Oct-11-10 11:49 AM by WI_DEM
This probably will get a good share of students out to vote:

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A debate is scheduled on the pros and cons of Iowa City's 21-and-older bar law.

The law will be on the Nov. 2 ballot. Voters are being asked whether they want to repeal the ordinance, which prevents those younger than 21 from being in a bar after 10 p.m. The age limit had been 19.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says Monday night's debate is hosted by the Hawkeye Area Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union and the League of Women Voters of Johnson County.

The debate, at the Iowa City Public Library, features Jim Mondanaro and Matt Pfalzgraf, opponents of the measure, and proponents Tom Rocklin and Nick Westergaard.

1. your headline is factually wrong.
People under 21 already can't drink; the debate is over whether those under 21 are even allowed in bars. They currently can get into bars, but they aren't allowed to drink.

4. They need to let these students know to vote to RETAIN the three IA Supreme Court Justices who are
on the ballot.

The RW/Fundies are campaigning against them because of the unanimous Iowa Supreme Court decision allowing Gay marriage.

Most people don't know who the Justices and Judges are so they just skip it. The RW isn't planning on skipping it.
