Can Reid by replaced even if he wins?
Could that happen if the Dems control by tiebreaker?

7. if he wins, but repubs get 51 (unlikely) he's out as majority leader
whether he'll still end up as minority leader is an interesting question. I'd say its 60/40 he would, but the scenario of his winning re-election and the repubs getting to 51 is pretty unlikely.

11. No. We should root for him to win. We need every vote we can get.

3. What exactly do you mean by
"Could Reid be replaced even if he wins?" Do you replaced as Majority Leader? Certainly. Each new Congress elects new majority/minority leaders/whips, so the Dems could easily decide on someone else.

Otherwise, if he wins, he's still a Senator, no matter which party has the majority.

4. When this question comes up, I always ask - who would you replace him with?
If Feingold wins he is probably too left for half the 'Dem' senators.
Bernie Sanders ain't a democrat ( he would be my choice fer sure)
Al Franken? Too new. Sheldon Whitehouse, maybe Sherrod Bron?

probably the next choices would be Dick Durbin and Chuck Shumer - I'll pass on them -

So I am not wild about Harry, but who else you got? Harkin?

6. Republicans always make a special effort to knock off
the leader of the House and Senate. Even if the Democrats keep the majority they like to see them go so they can say they did something. Look at Daschle he was knocked off and they made special fund raisers etc against him and put that butt Thune the evangelical nutso in.

8. The majority leader...
...is chosen by the caucus of whatever party holds a majority in the Senate. Some independents caucus with the Democrats -- Sanders, Lieberman -- but the vice-president's tie-breaking vote applies only to Senate actions, not caucus actions. In theory, he'd get to vote only when the final, settled-in-caucus, foregone conclusion vote is taken.
