Robert K. Kennedy, Jr. Endorses Charlie Crist |
|
OCTOBER 13, 2010 Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorses Crist Does this qualify as "major"? Robert F. Kennedy Jr., environmentalist and nephew of the former president, appeared with and endorsed Charlie Crist today in Deerfield Beach. "Throughout his career, Charlie Crist has been a champion for environmental protection, alternative energy, and green economy jobs," Kennedy said in a statement. "On the other hand, Tea Party darling Marco Rubio has assumed the radical role of climate change denier. Charlie Crist is the only candidate who can do what we need to defeat Marco Rubio in November and deliver results for hard-working Americans in the United States Senate." http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/the-buzz-florida-politics/content/robert-f-kennedy-jr-endorses-crist

3. I guess it is a strategic decision on RFK's part... |
|
After all, he continues to support Obama, whose positions on offshore drilling have likewise changed. Just sayin. Politics seems increasingly a game for pragmatists (and perhaps, cynics).

The whole lesser of two evils thing.
I still wish the establishment would just get behind the Democrat and push as hard as possible, even if it is probably a losing effort.

2. w0w! I'm stunned RFK, Jr endorsed Crist. K&R |
|
Admittedly if I were a Floridian (which I am not), I'd throw my vote to Crist strategically (assuming Meek can't move out of third place) to prevent a Senator Teabagger. But that's not an endorsement coming from me, it's a strategy.
This is vewy, vewy interesting. Thanks for posting it :hi:

7. The polling seems not to be changing--good for Rubio, bad for Crist and Meek. |
|
div class="excerpt"]I would much prefer to vote for Meek, and loathe the idea of Rubio-altho the cake does seemed baked at this point. We must have a Democratic governor who can veto some of the crap which will surely come our of our Republican legislature. Even Republican Nancy Argenziano resigned three months early from the Public Service Commission and endorsed Alex Sink yesterday, saying this very thing. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/the-buzz-florida-politics/content/video-argenziano-blasts-legislative-influence-psc-and-endorses-sink

Plus if Charlie "comes out" and says he will caucus with the Dems that could be another game changer.

to the last several weeks and many have decided to put their cards on the table. And the cards aren't going to Meek. I DIDN'T make it so, it's just that Meek was never a very strong candidate and he's never gotten traction.
While he says he won the Primary by a great percentage, the reality of it is this. Meek didn't beat Greene, Greene beat himself. He had lots of money, but once the BAD publicity came out he was dead in the water. The stuff was so bad that even many Democrats didn't vote in the Primary because we knew Meek would win. Where I vote there were SIX voters there for the WHOLE DAY! That's SAD.

our own candidate, Mr Meek. That is how we Democrats can win the seat, and it is the only way. Support Charlie the Palin Endorser if you wish, but claiming that 'we' win if he does is absurd, false, incorrect and utterly mendacious. A cheap use of words. Here, 'we' are Democrats. Crist wins, we lose, and that is the fact of it. If you say we need to win, better get out for Meek, because he is our candidate, the Party's nominee. We win that seat only if Kendrick Meek wins that seat. Period. Support whom you wish, but you are not allowed to rewrite the dictionary on your way to voting against the Democratic nominee. You should be spending your time figuring out reasons Democrats should vote for Obama again if Party means nothing and he opposes our equality. If standing for the Party means so little to the Crist Twisters, what is the argument for why GLBT people should even think of voting again for a religiously bigoted anti equality candidate? They have pulled the wool over your eyes.

Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 02:30 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I have lived in Florida for Florida for forty years. It was easy to dislike prominent Florida Republicans like Connie Mack, Bill McCollum, and John Ellis Bush but it was always hard to dislike Charlie, Anybody who watched his career could see he was a live and let live guy who did his best to navigate Florida politics.
What a mess. I expect the crook, Scott*, and the kook supported Rubio to win.
*not as sure about Scott.

If the only people voting for him are delusional right wing teabaggers (and those folks in Miami who are still waiting for Batista to rise up from Hell and lead them back to a renewed right wing Cuban paradise)
As I said in a previous thread, none of it really matters anyway, as the election will probably be stolen no matter what the actual votes are, since it is Florida.
But that does not change the fact that Democrats should not be endorsing a Republican candidate. And Crist is a Republican. Dropping that (R) after his name didn't change him in the least. He's not a closet...... Democrat.

We're right back where we started.
If Crist was in this for anyone but himself he wouldn't be IN the race in the first place. If he was truly worried about Rubio being too far right, he would have endorsed Meek early on and we would probably lead right now.
Now it's far FAR too late. Concentrate on WV,NV,IL,etc where we still have a chance (apparently a growing chance). FL is over.
