House GOP campaign chief is feeling confident, sets expectations at "mid-40s and above"

Let's make the smarmy fuck eat these words on November 2.

House GOP campaign chief predicts gains in 'mid-40s and above'
By Michael O'Brien - 10/13/10 02:59 PM ET

The head of House Republicans' campaign efforts said the GOP would pick up a number of seats totaling at least in the "mid-40s."

Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), set expectations for his candidates' performance with just under three weeks left until Election Day.

"We're just a few weeks from what I believe will be a tsunami," Sessions told the conservative magazine Newsmax. "For the House of Representatives, I believe we will go mid-40s and above."

A performance like that on Nov. 2 would have the effect of handing Republicans control of the House, and likely making House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) the new speaker of the House.

Republicans need to win 39 or more seats in the House to take back the majority. A number of GOP leaders have been unabashedly optimistic about their chances of making those kinds of gains, though Boehner himself has sought more actively to manage expectations. He said in late August that a GOP majority is an "uphill climb."

1. he doesn't believe in lowering expectations. Well, if the Dems keep the house
by just a handful of votes--it's a win for us since they have publicly gone on record as saying they will win the house.

5. Worry less about that and more about canvassing, phonebanking, donating, and rallying.
