None dare call it bribing politicians.

Secret Campaign Donations are not FREE Speech, it is BOUGHT Speech!

The other day Senator Russ Feingold got a HUGE round of applause during his Senatorial debate when he demanded that his opponent Ron Johnson STOP accepting secret funding and secretly funded ads on his behalf. Democrats, flooded by secret Citizens United funding of their Conservatives opponents, have finally started making the case that secret campaign donations are tantamount to bribes! The public, even misinformed teabaggers, DOES NOT LIKE corporations and secret donors bribing their politicians, and now that Democrats and the White House are attacking the Chamber of Commerce and Karl Rove backed groups that are funded by secret donations, the GOP is forced to play DEFENSE! It's a no-brainer WINNING MESSAGE for Dems!

And that message is Secret Donors have something to HIDE and expect something in return for their secret donations bribes!

2. I agree
I was just hearing how Karl Rove was working really hard to keep his political work quiet, pretending to just be an "analyst" on Fox, and not a political operative. And then the next day the DNC ad came out with his ugly mug, and he had to come out and defend himself.

3. Free speech
implies open speech to me. You do have the right to stand on a street corner ranting against the government. You can rant and everyone else can see who's ranting.

I want to see who is funneling money into campaigns. And on the flip side why would anyone be embarrassed for anyone to learn who they are and what candidates or causes they support. If you believe in the message then be open about it.

9. I would argue that "funneling money" is not a form of speech at all.
It's simply bribery, and bribery is not a constitutionally-protected form of free speech.

10. I guess the money part
is that that is how people get their "speech" out there, by buying advertising time.

I don't know how you feel about a group like the Sierra Club paying for an ad to promote a global warming initiative. I just want to know that it's the Sierra Club doing it. I can then determine that what they are promoting is something that I can get behind. KNowing who backs something is important.

4. Are Americans to assume that our political system is causing the unemployment situation then?
Because unless you connect a direct trail of how this is causing our current difficulties it sounds off message to me.

It tells me that all politicians care about is raising money and with money they can bs their way into office.

6. Republicans have stopped any Dem efforts to stop corporate outsourcing of US jobs
Corp money --> Republican Politiicians --> Pro corporate "NO" votes.

That is just one example.

8. Tell that to

GOP, U.S. Chamber Of Commerce Beat Back Bill To Combat Outsourcing

Dems step up focus on Chamber's foreign-funded attacks

WaPo

<...>

The remarks are part of a volley of recent attacks by Obama and other Democrats on alleged foreign influence within the Republican caucus, whether through support for outsourcing jobs by major U.S. corporations or through overseas money making its way into the coffers of GOP-leaning interest groups.

5. When the Dems can fit their message on a Bumper Sticker
its a winner.

Yes, it is sad to live in a slogan based society, but when we can sum up our message that concisely we can capture the largely uninterested and otherwise uninformed who still vote.

7. Democrats need to take the English language back--it's BRIBERY.
They have been selling our jobs, land and resources off to foreign investors for a long time. Ironically we do have to literally take our country back---from those that have betrayed the American trust. If we keep looking and follow the money trail, we will find out where trillions have gone, the biggest heist in history.

11. The pundits have thought this was a message that wouldn't resonate. But it made an impression on ME
I thought so from the start. Campaign donations from foreign sources? That really upsets me. That has been my fear ever since that disastrous S.Ct. decision. The donations are secret?

All that is very scary to me. Very scary.
