Poll question: Check in if you are someone who isn't accessible to phone polls!
I know I am. I have a regular telephone but I haven't answered it in ages. So if someone is trying to reach me to do a political poll they will never get ahold of me. And I know alot of my liberal friends don't even have a home phone they don't answer, they are cell phone only.

So I'm really thinking that we are close in so many of these races is actually good for us, because many progressives out there can't be reached for doing these public polls.

So I'd like to see how skewed these polls are especially in light of the studies that showed exactly what we know - that the polls aren't working since many folks aren't using old-fashion phones anymore.

4. I've got both but
I screen my calls. I find the political calls annoying. I hate to get them and hate to make them.

6. I have both, but rarely take calls on my landline.
It's there only in case I need to make a call and my cell phone doesn't have enough battery left.

My landline is a cordless with digital answering machine which is on all the time, taking messages and screening calls.

7. I keep my landline so I can find my cell phone.
Seriously!

Plus when I have forms to fill otu that require a phone number I can just put in my home phone number. I know I'll never answer it.

8. There's a wonderful website
called Where's My Cell Phone? www.wheresmycellphone.com

I have both a landline and a cell phone, but the landline is a local only service in New Mexico, and I kept my old Missouri area code cell phone when I moved so that friends from back there could call me as a local call. Since with cell phones long distance is no longer an issue, I also find that so many people use cell phones so much that they've don't realize that long distance still exists for land lines.

Anyway, if you only keep your landline to call your cell phone, check out the above website.

10. It would seem to me that most who answer phone polls are...
... the poor and lower middle class. Most people who are middle class and up have caller ID, and unless you're motivated politically to answer phone questionnaires, most AREN'T going to pick up call from any of those agencies.

11. Actually ...
I have a line line and a cell phone; but I never (rarely) answer the lineline unless I recognize the number AND want to talk with them. So, I'll never be counted in a poll or survey.

12. Cell phone only here...........
and I've never been polled on either, even when I HAD a land line. Also, I'm a "likely" voter, considering I've never missed an election since I was eligible to vote.

15. i think they are supposed to take this into account when doing the polls
for accuracy. of course we know they don't always and even ask questions based on what result they might want.

16. I screen calls
on my landline. If I don't recognize the number I don't answer the phone. The person on the other end can leave a message. If they don't I know it wasn't important.

I've been polled on my landline. I just happened to answer the phone. Never on my cell phone, though.

17. we have caller ID and screen calls
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 08:09 PM by Sheepshank
We generally will not pick up for toll free, or pollsters, or political offices if the ID shows up. If we accidentally pick up, we don't stay on the line long. We are simply not accessible for polling.

18. I was recently polled on my cell, so I don't see what all the fuss is about .........
the only way you can be completely unavailable to polls is to never answer your phone, or you don't have a phone.

19. I have both, but our phone company has a perk that makes them "dial" one before going through, this
keeps computer generated calls out. It also shows on our TV, so if we don't know who it is or don't want to answer we don't, nice way to screen calls.

21. Wow.
Had no idea so many other people just don't answer their phone!

The only phone I have in my name now is a cell. I have access to a land line, but it seldom gets answered if the caller-ID doesn't identify someone from whom we want to hear. So I'd guess the likelihood of my being polled by phone is minimal.

There's lots of reasons people don't always answer a ringing phone anymore, I guess. However, anybody doing phone polling (or commenting on it) should recognize that one likely reason is probably the wish to avoid bill collectors, especially in this economy. Don't know how this skews poll results, but it surely has some effect.

23. I have a landline and a cellphone but only answer my landline.
My cell is for emergencies only. I hate the damn thing.
I've never gotten a call to take a poll. I only get robo calls for various candidates.
