If Democrats weren't afraid to make the case for big government,
they would not be in such bad shape.

After all, what are Republicans against? interstate highways? clean water? safe drugs? currency protection? a reasonably trustworthy economic system? 40 hour work weeks? child labor laws? safe airways? reliable telecommunications? safe products? firefighters? police officers? teachers? benefits for veterans? programs that protect children? education? troops? military equipment? military bases? courts? prisons? schools? sewers? safe food? protection against toxic waste? Social Security? Medicaid/Medicare? playgrounds? public pools? parks? trash collection? museums? libraries? street lights? bridges? tunnels? airports? safe work places? minimum wage? building construction codes? mass transit? child protection services? licensing? animal control? disaster relief? snow removal from public places? recycling? property rights? voter registration? disease control? the National Guard? record keeping?

The fact is that big government works, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. If the Democrats would start to point that out, then they wouldn't be defending their record, they'd be promoting it. It's hard to think of any big government initiative that the American people actually turned against. They like all this country has to offer.

1. So true!
Whenever I hear the "I hate big government" crap coming out of some right wingers mouth, I ask them what exactly do they hate about it...specifically. I've never had a sensible response.

7. Both sides want big government in spite of what they might say.
It's just that they have very different ideas about what that big government should do. Conservatives want big government to help the upper class keep all of it's money and make more.
