2. I guess there are people who think that....
putting in place policies that put people back to work, making wall street play by the rules, getting out of Iraq, lowering taxes, fair/equal pay for women, making it easier to get student loans is extreme......WE LIVE IN A FUCKED UP COUNTRY!

3. Big surprise.
Propaganda has results.

Nearly every hour of TV political discussion has been carrying the Republican message that Obama and the Democrats are making America socialist. This message has worked because the American people don't even know what socialism is, they only know it is bad. It's no wonder after Beck, Limbaugh and other blur the distinction between fascism, communism and socialism. This has been their goal and they have kicked into the net.

4. So basically...
The democrats piss all over their strongest voting blocks and the core of their base in an effort to seem more "moderate" and centrist to the supposed swing voter, and wind up appealing to next to no one.

Great job.

5. I saw it coming.
It's so damn clear that the Obama administration is center, leaning right. Yet they were destined to be called leftist no matter what they did. So why not take advantage and actually accomplish something?

6. Yeah, after all
the first person Democrats should trust is Mark Penn: "The polling firm Penn, Schoen and Berland"

Not even sure what this poll is trying to prove:

More than one in every five Democrats (22 percent) in The Hill’s survey said their party was more dominated than the GOP by extreme views. The equivalent figure among Republicans is 11 percent.

Results for independent voters reflected the larger sample. Forty-three percent of likely independent voters said the Democratic Party is more dominated by its extreme elements, compared to 37 percent who thought the GOP had fallen under the sway of extreme views.

Republicans don't believe their Party is extreme because they share those extremists views.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party includes many people with vastly diverging views.

7. We have some serious issues in this country
People are ignorant, flakey and just too stupid to live. If we don't start changing how our school system works this country will never recover.

Eight years of bush and all the shit that has gone down since Obama was elected - I can't understand things like this! What is wrong with us??

10. This is what happens when the media is controlled by the right wing.
It's so funny how the pubs have ingrained "liberal media" into the country's brain. They are masters at labeling something when it's exactly the opposite. Obama is a socialist, tax and spend Democrats, etc.
This poll clearly shows the thinking of people who are constantly bombarded with messages about how awful the Democrats are for trying to turn the country Socialist with death panels to kill grandma and how Social Security is bankrupting the country along with other "entitlements" and the repubs want to reign in all of the Dems frivolous spending which has driven the deficit to record levels, yada, yada, yada.... Is it any wonder that probably 80 percent of the population has no clue what's really going on?

repbs have completely dominated the message wars for the last 30 years. We have very little hope of catching up.

Any of those names ring a bell? After watching loaded results from this poll trickle out the past week, I call bullshit.

12. This doesn't even make sense. I'd have to see the exact wording to the questions.
I have yet to hear comments that would support this poll. The Dems I know will definitely vote straight ticket Dem. They haven't wavered, but I know of Repugs who are disgusted at the "No" actions of their party. They don't put it that way, but they do say there should have been more cooperation across the aisle.

I will agree that a daily, heavy dose of Rush, Beck and their ilk has taken its toll.

Would that be considered extreme?

16. Small sample size

ME = 4.5. That's a big ME. It means the real results might be 41.5 Rep amd 39.5 Dem. Plus results are from only 10 districts considered "battleground" districts -- very small and skewed sample. Combine all that and the results are meaningless. Take a national poll, then it might mean something.

My guess is the only valid results are the ones given by Charles Chamberlain:

“Ask Americans if they want Democrats to compromise on any specific issue like healthcare reform, Social Security or tax cuts for the wealthy and the real-world answer becomes no,” said Chamberlain. “This is why recent polling shows that by a 2-to-1 margin Americans think the healthcare bill didn't go far enough. This is why over 70 percent of Americans want Congress to keep their hands off Social Security and over 65 percent want the tax cuts for the wealthy to expire. The facts show, when you poll Americans on the issues, they want progress, not compromise.”

His polls were polls of "Americans," not of Democrats or Republicans, and it sounds like they were national polls. Very strong statement by Americans not to compromise on these key issues. I hope Obama is reading these results as he considers compromising with Repubs.
