Just Coming Right Out & Saying It

Josh Marshall | October 18, 2010, 11:18PM

There are a lot of subterranean efforts afoot around the country right now to suppress the vote of various racial minorities. But a group styling itself Latinos for Reform is taking a more straightforward approach: they're running ads in Nevada asking Latino voters simply not to vote.

Videos after the jump.

Here's the commercial translated into English ...

And here's the Spanish language version which is actually airing ...

The ads are the work of Robert Desposada, a Republican political consultant and Univision pundit.

These bastards don't give two shits about our American Democracy, they will gladly turn this nation into a police state to maintain power and the money it brings.

seek to do that by any means necessary.

Their operatives are out in full force seeking to demoralize Democrats in order to depress our voter turn out. Ungodly levels of money are being given to them to fund this.

Most politicians vote with their party, and the overwhelming majority of the GOP are puppets to large corporate special interests. They must be kept in the minority. Ideally they'd be voted out of office.

Ben Smith breaks the news that the Spanish-language network Univision will not be airing a controversial segment by the conservative group Latinos for Reform urging Hispanic voters to stay home on election day in Nevada.

"Univision will not be running any spots from Latinos for Reform related to voting," according to network spokeswoman Monica Talan. "Univision prides itself on promoting civic engagement and our extensive national campaigns encourage Hispanics to vote."

Talan also distanced Univision from Robert de Posada, the founder of Latinos for Reform, whom we interviewed here.
