So Tea Partiers want to reduce the size of government. And they want R's to do it.

The graphs are indexed. The spending at the start of a presidency is "100" for each of the 5 presidents shown. I don't think it's adjusted for inflation or population growth.

Reagan +78% over his eight years
Bush41 +13% over his four years
Clinton +13% over his eight years
Bush43 +186 over his eight years

Fiscally responsible conservatives, what a load... :hurts:

1. Don't confuse their 3 working synapses with facts.
It might cause smoke to come out their ears if they try to think.

2. Hey, man, watch this, watch this...
"Ahem. I would like to announce to all teabaggers that taxing and spending is the very definition of fiscal responsibity since it precludes deficits by definition."

Now watch... you can see teabagger processing....

Watch...

Watch...

Smoke! :smoke:

3. Republicans don't really believe in *smaller government
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 09:35 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
In fact, there are simply fundamental differences between WHAT Republicans and Democrats want government to do precisely.

Specifically, here a few areas that the two parties differ in terms of what they seem to want government for.

Republicans want government to essentially enshrine and support a corporate oligarchy in this country, including using the military to exploit other countries as part of further enriching themselves.

Democrats want to ensure economic fairness and justice for all American citizens, as well as ensure that EVERYBODY receives or at least actually has the ability to receive the basic essentials of life. Democrats want our country protected militarily but prefer to focus on building alliances and partnerships with other countries both as part of protecting ourselves, as well as creating worldwide economic prosperity for everybody.

Republicans- or at least a vocal segment of them- also want a certain moral code adopted and enforced by the government that prohibits and/or discourages whatever activities or beliefs that they find objectionable.

Democrats want government to (largely) leave people alone to manage their own lifestyle and personal welfare provided that it doesn't harm or interfere with others.

4. Of course they don't
They never have. The power of government is too intoxicating to resist, and in our complex and interdependant world can't really be done.

It's about what you use it for that is the issue, and their faith in capitalism completely blinds them to the issues of monopolies, oligarcies, plutocracies, etc.

Dems want to reward everybody with a good start in life and some protection from bad luck; Repubes want to reward only those that make it through the meat-grinder of life.

5. The thing that the Repubs don't realize (or care about)
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 01:32 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
is that just about everybody does or at least CAN go through the "meat-grinder" at any given time- often without warning. Their way of *thinking* only seem to make sense for them so long as they stay on their "perch" and manage to stay out of the "meat-grinder". Their overall mentality seems to be: "I've got mine, f**k everybody else! They lack some core empathy and compassion for those people less fortunate than themselves (read: inferior).
