TPM: Jack Conway Embracing Aqua Buddhist Mantle, Going on Offense
Conway Embracing Aqua Buddhist Mantle?
Josh Marshall
October 19, 2010, 1:59PM

I mentioned earlier the Dem Aqua Buddhist movement coalescing around Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway. Not Conway seems to trying to build on the movement momentum. Here's the lede grafs from a fundraising email he just sent out ...

The way for Democrats to win in 2010 and beyond is to go on offense.

Republicans and Wall Street bankers are gearing up to try and privatize Social Security after the election, so I led the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and hundreds of candidates around the country in announcing yesterday that we've pledged not to tolerate any cuts.

That's called taking the fight to them, and it's the same thing I've been doing to Rand Paul.

Like I said, this taking the initiative, going on offense, appeals to a lot of Dems, even as it appalls a few.

2. Some Dems will consistantly criticize Conway and other candidates like him
Who - God help us - will actually put up a fight against fascists like Rand Paul.

3. I think this is his only move at this point. You HAVE to double-down if you're going to go
this way. No back-tracking and apologizing at this point. HIT. HIM. HARD. (And this is coming from an Atheist who may not agree with the actual implication of the message, but is all for doing WHATEVER we need to do to keep another Brown Shirt out of the Senate.)

6. Like Sean Connery said in 'The Untouchables' - "if they bring
a knife, you bring a gun". That's what we need to do now - kick these fuckers in the balls every chance we get.

7. Conway was wrong
If this was a Republican doing the same thing to a Dems, most here would be screaming bloody murder.

And Conway wins, he'll be another Blue Dog in the Senate and those defending him now will be denouncing him.

8. Your "principle" is really neat and all but...
i'm not terribly impressed. I understand Conway is doing what he has to do...to win.

Do you think anyone other than a "blue dog" could actually win a Senate seat in KY? Reality is, we're fortunate to have KY and WV as toss-ups in this electoral climate.

Get back to me when you find an *actual* double standard rather than a made-up hypothetical one.

13. No you said I would scream bloody murder if a Republican did it to a Dem
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 03:59 PM by emulatorloo
And I would, because the Republican would be lying. Because that's what they do. They make crap up and they lie,

Conway isn't making anything up here.

I don't have a "double standard" - I don't like liars.

20. Then campaign against him based on that
and not on test of religious purity or some 20 year old charge made by someone who efuses to give her name.

The ends don't justify the means.

22. I'm with Kos. The Dem weenies need to be quiet. Conway is trying to WIN.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 05:47 PM by Tatiana
Besides, the ad is factually accurate. A Dem moderate winning a seat in Kentucky is something close to a miracle.

Harry Reid should take note.
