Local MA tea party candidate worried that trick-or treating could lead kids to witchcraft.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 05:40 PM by Mass
May be this is the explanation of O'Donnell. To much trick and treating?

ttp://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2010/10/19/gop_rallies_to_candidates_once_seen_as_long_shots/

Like O’Donnell, who has been mocked for saying she once dabbled in witchcraft, Martinez also has a lengthy history of television appearances that could haunt her. On her cable access show in 2004, Martinez warned that trick-or-treating, Harry Potter books, and the “new age images’’ presented in 1980s-era programming such as “The Smurfs’’ and “The Care Bears’’ could destigmatize the occult and leave children vulnerable to the lure of witchcraft.

“To me, that’s what the Harry Potter thing is doing, only in a much broader scale than the Smurfs ever did,’’ she said. “The children are going to remember those feelings that they had watching the movies and reading the books, and they’re going to be prime targets.’

LOL. They are all crazy.

2. These people have been steadily losing their minds since the 1980's.
St. Ronnie gave them his holy blessing to plum lose their minds and they've been making him proud ever since.

5. Sure - didn't you know that the Smurfs are demonic?
I was once told that by a member of a main-stream Protestant denomination. The crazy: it's everywhere.

20. Well - I have to admit that in the Reagan years, I thought that the values of
Care Bear and Strawberry Shortcake shows and Raffi songs - especially in the non - kid environmental album would lead to a more liberal generation of kids. It was counter programming to Reagan's. The Care Bears would never label ketchup a vegetable.

7. Did you know that SANTA is an anagram of SATAN?
Or that the Irish are a bunch of drunken boors stealing jobs from good hard-working Americans of English descent, so we shouldn't celebrate St. Patrick's Day, either?

:hide: :sarcasm:

Hail Santa!

Thank goodness I'm not in any district she may end up representing. I hope this sort of publicity will sink her candidacy.

catholic priests wear hats to hide their horns.

12. It's New England. We like Halloween and witches and lots of us visit Salem every year.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 09:44 PM by Jennicut
I live in northwestern CT and there is nothing like celebrating Halloween around here. My daughters love Halloween AND Harry Potter (though the last movie looks too scary for them!). At 5 and 6 they are not practicing satanism but experiencing the joy of dressing up, getting candy, and visiting their neighbors. Oh, and the Smurfs and Care Bears did not corrupt my 1980's childhood. Books and movies about kids that practice magic have not corrupted them.

...they're doing it this year, and they've done it every year that October 31 has fallen on a Sunday, because...well, we can't have Devil Worshipers romp around on the Lord's Day. :eyes:

What the fuck do the Smurphs have to do with witches?

What sad idiotic lives these people must lead...I am so happy I don't think like them.

19. This is crazy
The Harry Potter book are wonderful. I really don't get the attack on the care bears. I don't remember anything occult at all about them - just the nice values taught and I like the music used (no surprise, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears music was written by 1960s musicians) I watched hours of the care bears with my kids. (Just thinking - could a care bear stare end the tea party anger in people it is applied against? Maybe that's her problem.)

Maybe Martinez needs to go further an attack the "Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe" - ignoring its clearly Christian roots.

What she seems against is fun, imagination and a kid getting to be a kid. I think she attacked most parents of kids born in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s - who bought their kids the books, and watched the shows with them - and all of those kids.

In Europe, people may find them too nice, too idealistic, but leading kids to witchcraft?

How nuts. Some of my favorite childhood memories (from the dark ages) are connected to Halloween and trick or treating. Unfortunately, I am currently not able to turn people into frogs.
