DNC Raises $11 Million in Two Weeks
By MICHAEL D. SHEAR
The Democratic National Committee will report today raising nearly $11.1 million during the first 13 days of October, a pace that would give the party its best midterm haul ever.
Brad Woodhouse, the chief spokesman for the DNC, attributed the fund-raising success in large part to President Obama’s travels during the campaign, and said voters opposed to the Republican agenda are emptying their wallets for Democrats.
“As the President has been traveling the country firing up voters, and as the Republican plan to take us back to the failed policies that nearly wrecked our economy has become clear, our fund-raising has taken off,” Mr. Woodhouse said. “And, while Republicans are scaling back their field and voter contact efforts, we are spending more than ever on efforts to turn out normally reliable midterm and surge voters.”
The success of the party’s fund-raising is perhaps the one bright spot in an otherwise dreary election season for Democrats. The DNC’s financial success is especially sweet for the party’s leaders given the money raising struggles for their counterparts at the Republican National Committee.
