New poll: Dem closing gap in Pa. governor's race

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A new poll shows Pennsylvania Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato closing the gap between him and front-runner Tom Corbett.

The Muhlenberg College poll released Wednesday shows Corbett, the Republican attorney general, holding a slight lead over Onorato, a county chief executive from Pittsburgh. The lead is smaller than two earlier surveys taken by the same pollster since mid-September.

In the latest poll, Corbett is backed by 47 percent of likely voters, Onorato is favored by 40 percent and 14 percent are undecided. The totals include voters who said they are leaning toward a candidate. (In late September Corbett was up 47-37 in this same poll)

The telephone survey of 403 likely voters was conducted over four days ending Tuesday. The sampling error margin is plus or minus 5 percentage points.
