Nancy Pelosi is one of the most savvy Speakers of the House we've had in recent years, a smart woman of immense political acumen; yet she has become the most-used political curse word in this campaign. Not only does the nutty Right attach her name to every despised tax-and-spend opponent, but the Left is not defending her with any alacrity. How in the hell did this happen? Could leaving Bush's impeachment "on the table" have changed this?

1. The Left has no go to person to speak to the media, to defend our |
|
people, or to clarify and defend our positions. Repubs have a kazillion of them. I don't consider either Gibbs or Axelrod good media people. Oh for the days of Dr. Dean....

2. If there was hope that Bush et al could have come to justice |

I think things would be better for her, not that it was her decision, really. She was the messenger.

9. I think she could have had some influence there. |
|
The "off the table" remark, coming as soon as it did, was chilling.

an extremly strong woman in a predominately man's world, but she is also one smart, savvy sumovabitch. She has run circles around not only the opposition, but also those in our own party who would undercut her at any chance they could. Even here on DU there has been many unpleasant comments made about Nancy P.

There is a lot of sexism involved in the attacks on Nancy Pelosi.

7. I love Nancy, she's sharp, she knows House procedures inside and out, and she was extremely |
|
good at shepherding the HCR bill through the House and keeping everyone "together".
She is the best!

8. Pelosi reminds me very much of FDR in the sense that she doesn't |
|
wring her hands over the right's hatred for her--she revels in it. Adores it. Loves it.
She took over the mantle of the Democratic Party's most polarizing figure from Hillary Clinton a long time ago, and she did it gladly.

11. How very, very sweet it would be for the fierce Pelosi to keep the House Democratic! |
|
Pelosi understands members need to do what they need to do to get re-elected. She is one tough, effective lady whom I truly admire. She got the job done for Obama and is being punished for it.
The hypocritical Republicans are totally ruthless--cynically using the absolutely necessary stimulus against the Democrats. Had Obama had explained to the American people the absolute need for the stimulus, the Dems may not be in such electoral peril. I expect he, too, regrets that he did not 'do the politics' on the stimulus.
