Before he'd served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of
the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds -- including this white, straight, 57-year-old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter -- are sticking with our President. Why? -- Because he is succeeding.

When people are whining about primary challengers because a whole 8-year shitload of Bush crap set in motion and blowing up now hasn't been fixed in TWO YEARS, I call that short-sighted.

This is a man who along with his father virtually designed the very religious right he now claims to call out as equals to his constant targets, the 'left' by which he means GLBTQ people who will not sit down and shut up. and he lost my respect when he traded away the lefts values in backroom deals with big-pharma and the health insurance companies. When it comes to firing up the base and holding his ground during debates, the man that is in office is a shell of the man who ran for office.

I have no doubt that Obama is a gifted speaker, a pretty smart individual, and the ability to fundamentally change the course of this nation. I just doubt his motivation to do so.

Calling us the "easily distracted left" is a complete waste of time and accomplishes nothing when these are the people who only want what Obama promised during his 2008 campaign. We're not the ones accepting watered-down legislation, so it makes me wonder who is really easily distracted, because it's not the left.
