CT-SEN POLL: Blumenthal 57, McMahon 39. CT-GOV POLL: Malloy 49, Foley 38

With less than two weeks left in the 2010 election cycle, Connecticut Attorney General and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Richard Blumenthal (57 percent) has opened up an 18 point lead over Republican candidate Linda McMahon (39 percent) in the Connecticut race for U.S. Senate, according to the latest Suffolk University poll. Connecticut for Lieberman candidate John Mertens has 1 percent, Independent Warren Mosler has 2 percent, while just 2 percent of likely voters remain undecided.

Blumenthal is listed twice on the ballot for U.S. Senate – once as the Democratic Party nominee and once as the Working Families Party nominee. This fusion or cross-endorsement process allows total votes cast for both the Democratic and Working Families nominees to be counted for Blumenthal. Blumenthal was the choice of 54 percent as the Democratic nominee and 3 percent as the Working Families Party nominee.

“It doesn’t appear that voter fusion will cause too much confusion in Connecticut on election day,” said David Paleologos, director of the Political Research Center at Boston’s Suffolk University. “Blumenthal, at this point, doesn’t even need the Working Families Party votes to secure a win – he just needs Republican Linda McMahon to continue her negative ad campaign, as voters have viewed McMahon’s campaign as the more negative between the two.”

When asked who has run a more negative campaign in the U.S. Senate race, 62 percent of likely voters said Republican Linda McMahon, while only 20 percent said Democrat Richard Blumenthal, and 18 percent were undecided. And, when asked specifically about McMahon’s ads stating Blumenthal lied about serving in Vietnam, 33 percent of likely voters said it made no difference as to who they would vote for on Nov. 2, 30 percent said it made them more likely to vote for Democrat Blumenthal, 25 percent said Republican McMahon, 5 percent stated it made them more likely to vote for another candidate, and 6 percent of likely voters remain undecided on the issue.

In the race for governor, Democrat Dan Malloy (49 percent) leads Republican Tom Foley (38 percent) by 11 points. Malloy also benefits from the cross-endorsement votes garnered as the Democratic and Working Families Party nominee. As the Democratic nominee, Malloy only led Foley by 7 points. Independent Thomas Marsh received the support of 4 percent and 8 percent of likely voters were undecided.

3. Yet she decided to lend her campaign even more money. Brilliant.
It should be a good night for Dems in CT.

4. wow
Has McMahon's money dried up? I'm not seeing her ads any more. Or maybe she's seeing that her Vietnam is not working and she has nothing else to run on?

13. No, there was a devastating story in the NY Times recently about how her
campaign ads were annoying women in the state. Big surprise!

22. Also, women really do not like the WWE's sexist product.
The female vote is going take Linda to a crushing defeat!

7. Linda signs are a commonality in Upper Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.
The rest of the state, not so much, especially in middle of the state, tons of population and tons of Democrats.

14. The rest of Litchfield tends to be pretty liberal, if my experience still serves me.
There are some ultra liberals in Litchfield County...my guess is that they are old rich money who like their liberal CT...

20. There are a lot of signs in blue collar Terryville (where I live), Bristol, Wolcott, Thomaston,

Watertown, etc. I have seen them all over the place here in the beginning of Litchfield County. All for Repubs. The rest of the state, not so much. I am a little worried about my rep Chris Murphy but hopefully he beats Caligiuri . These towns are very white, very working class, a bit rural. The shooting range in Wolcott loves it's conservatives even though it is just outside Litchfield County. Dare I say a bit ignorant at times? I grew up in Cheshire. There is definitely a different feeling up here compared to Cheshire, Hamden, New Haven where I spent most of my time until I moved up to Terryville. We are a bit disconnected from central and southern CT.

23. Richard could pull Murphy over the top.
He may provide an extra cushion of support for Himes and Malloy too.

9. McMahon has spent 41 million dollars so far
in her quest to buy the Senate seat in Connecticut. Imagine how much good 41 million dollars would have done if sent to the food pantry's and homeless shelters.

She and her husband make me sick to my stomach, and I'm looking forward to watching her, likely bad, concession speech.

10. Linda sat down at the piano but doesn't seem to know
how to play the tune very well.

It sounds pretty bad, in fact.

I hope Blumentahl runs up the score and carries a lot of down-ballot Dems along to victory as well.

21. thanks, saltpoint!
Foley's newer ad features him speaking directly into the camera. His disdain for the voters is so evident that I think he made matters worse for himself. However, I am less comfortable with that campaign than I am with the McMahon campaign...she's getting lower in the polls every week!

I did know New York has fusion and the WFP. Interesting. Good to see Blumenthal so far ahead.

19. McMahon's ads have been relentlessly negative and have turned off a lot of people here.
I saw a great ad by Blumenthal the other day. He said he has always been here, helping CT residents. There were people giving their stories about him. He has helped a lot of people for over 20 years. I don't see McMahon with her millions overcoming the decency and likability of Blumenthal. Also, Malloy looks like he will benefit from Foley being a weak candidate. Malloy should win as well.
