Bloomberg Poll finds that by 2-1 voters think taxes have gone up and economy has shrunk
(The corporate media and republicans have done a good job convincing people of these things while the Obama Administration (which I support wholeheartedly) had done a terrible job conveying their accomplishments):

A Bloomberg National Poll finds that by a two-to-one margin, likely voters in the midterm elections think taxes have gone up, the economy has shrunk, and the billions lent to banks as part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program won't be recovered.

The facts: The Obama administration cut taxes for middle-class Americans, has overseen an economy that has grown for the past four quarters and expects to make a profit on the hundreds of billions of dollars spent to rescue Wall Street banks.

Said pollster Ann Selzer: "The public view of the economy is at odds with the facts, and the blame has to go to the Democrats. It does not matter much if you make change, if you do not communicate change."

1. The Administration in my opinion should have given a check to the American people
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 07:40 AM by bigdarryl
but they decided not to because they didn't want to do what Bush did.Instead they decided to put it in your returns at the end of the year where people barely saw it

2. This was a mistake, IMHO
My husband, who's an Obama supporter, was skeptical about whether he'd received a tax cut. I showed him pay stubs from the same month in 2008 and 2009. He was surprised to see that even though he was making slightly less in 2008 he was paying more in taxes.

A big check with a note from President Obama would have let people know for sure where that money came from. May not have been the best policy but it would have been better politics.

4. EVERY REPUTABLE ECONOMIST
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 07:58 AM by dennis4868
says that when you give people a tax cut through their witholdings it has a much greater effect on the economy than by giving a one time payment through a check....Obama puts good policy ahead of politics....I AM PROUD OF THAT! :-)

3. Though the government economic statistic indicate a recovery.
People on main street are NOT seeing any recovery. Those that lost their jobs are still unemployed. If they do find a job (by hiding their education and skills) it pays so little that it barely makes a dent in the bills. If this economy were recovering, you would have NO 99ers, they would all have jobs. If this economy were recovering, people wouldn't be seeing their neighbors going through foreclosures and bankruptcies.

It's not about perceptions and bad PR. It's about how awful life is for the middle class and poor in the US. It may be recovering for the uber rich and upper middle class, but not for the rest of us.

Every time someone says the economy is recovering it merely reinforces how unimportant the unemployed and poor are to America that the economy can recover without them.

16. Just like Reagan
Go on TV, get a white-board, roll up his sleeves, oh they already rolled up, get some chalk and right: The deficit was caused by, war in Afghanistan, war in Iraq, unfunded tax cuts, all by Bush and Tax Boy and McConnell. And list out the amounts. This guy just takes a pounding and delegates to Congress. Hope may win elections but hope is no way to govern. This guy is now tuned out and I don't know if anybody cares what he says at this point because he let the repugs define him, AFTER he won the election. That is just piss poor.

8. The buck stops with the voters
They have access to all the information they need to know the facts. They repeatedly fail and thus are easily manipulated.

It's a problem.

9. In many places, state and local taxes and "fees" have gone up
the economy doesn't look so good on the ground and banksters and fraudsters haven't been held to account- but have instead grown richer or skipped away with millions in ill gotten gains.

Not really much of a surprise under the circumstances that people would think like that.
