Late Polls Show Boxer, Murray Ahead
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 01:43 PM by jenmito
New polls out Friday showed two Democratic Senators with leads heading into the final weekend before the elections. California Sen. Barbara Boxer and Washington Sen. Patty Murray are in tight battles, but the new polling offers signs that the three-term Democrats could be just days from winning fourth terms.

A new Field Poll in California found Boxer ahead of Republican Carly Fiorina by 8 points in a race both parties are taking seriously. The poll, taken over a 13-day span, means Boxer has led by between 5 points and 9 points in five of the past six surveys.

“With each poll, she gathers just a little bit more support, and she’s certainly in the most comfortable position now than she’s been in the past six months,” Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said, according to the Sacramento Bee.

<snip>

A poll from the University of Washington found that Murray led Rossi 51 percent to 45 percent among likely voters. The poll, conducted for KCTS-TV and KPLU, carried a 4.3-point margin of error.

“Patty Murray appears to be ahead in this contest,” Washington pollster Matt Barreto told KPLU. “I think you’re gonna see that play out on election night.”

This article also points out that the REPUBS. point to the automated Survey USA poll which had some people here freaking out. I think we should discount that one according to all evidence disputing it.

1. Survey USA says they used cell phones and some live interviewers in their sample
This survey includes interviews conducted on cellphones and on home phones. Using both RDD landline and cellphone sample from Survey Sampling, SurveyUSA interviewed 900 state of Washington adults 10/24/10 through 10/27/10. Cellphones were hand-dialed. Of the adults, 780 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 678 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted, or to be likely to vote in the 11/02/10 general election. In the table that follows, the following short-hand appears: "CPO" = Cell Phone Only, respondents who do not have a home phone and who make and receive phone calls with a cell phone. "Both" = respondents who have both a cell phone and a home phone but for this survey were contacted and interviewed on their cell phone by a live operator who dialed the call by hand. "Home Phone" = respondents who were interviewed on their home phone with the recorded-voice of a professional announcer. 33% of the likely voters interviewed for this survey were contacted and interviewed entirely by live operator, 67% of likely voters were contacted and interviewed using recorded voice. CPO respondents account for 18% of likely voters. Consistent with the findings of some academic research, but less pronounced than SurveyUSA's findings in California, CPO respondents in Washington state are slightly more Democratic than those with home phones. CPO respondents are unpredictable to pollsters; it is unclear to what extent these voters will turn out.

SurveyUSA results.

10. Um ok...They are generally an accurate pollster.

They did use cell phones in their sample, and you incorrectly characterized it as an automated poll. I really don't see the usual gripes here.

It's ok to come out and say you just don't like their result, and you like this poll's result better...for the moment.

12. The article said it was an automated poll-not me.
But you can trust them if you want-even REPUBS. have questioned their validity, even when the polls favored THEM.

2. Again, how the fuck does an 8-point lead 4 days before an election
with the lead growing constitute "a tight battle?"

at least that's followed by, "but the new polling offers signs that the three-term Democrats could be just days from winning fourth terms."

15. That's what they pushing in Washington state
they are saying Rossi is neck and neck with Murray. They are fools, Murray has done a great deal for veterans and the state. Rossi is your typical Republican greedy and whores himself out to the deepest pockets.

7. What's with Wisconsin?
Feingold was defending his progressive beliefs. I can't figure out what the citizens liked the last time he ran and now?

13. If I lived there, I'd know...
but since I don't, I'll just say the majority of the voters aren't that bright.

11. I've never worred about Boxer before. . .
But I live in very liberal San Francisco City/County, and everybody is progressive. It's hard to imagine that there is a conservative electorate here in California, particularly in the Central Valley! Thankfully they're out of sight & out of mind, but those fuckers DO vote. I hope these trends continue to grow and that Boxer stomps that asshole, Carly Fiorina.
