Arianna: Obama Doesn't Seem To Be Learning From His Mistakes
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 09:51 PM by onehandle
Arianna appeared on MSNBC's "Countdown" Friday night to discuss the disconnect between the Obama administration's record, its perception of that record, and the public's perception thereof.

Part of the problem, she told host Keith Olbermann, lies with President Barack Obama's failure both to effectively communicate his accomplishments and to learn from his mistakes -- to recognize, for example, that the stimulus needed to be larger, or to acknowledge the errors of senior advisers like National Economic Council Director Larry Summers.

"What is worse for me, Keith, is that he still doesn't seem to realize that that's what happened. He was on Jon Stewart a couple of nights ago, and he actually said ... 'heckuva job' to refer to Larry Summers," Arianna said. "And Larry Summers, of course, was responsible for painting a very different picture of the economy than the one that's unfolding right now."

The 'heckuva job' moment during The Daily Show made my wife and I cringe like you would never believe.

1. I don't think Arianna is learning from hers........even this close to a big election,
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 09:49 PM by FrenchieCat
nor do I think she is interested in Democrats retaining seats.....
Her having the same big mouth she's had all along,
does not learning make.

Guess because she got free publicity by spending money on a bus
for a rally that she had nothing to do with,
makes her a big hero, nevertheless,
and her trash will not not only be printed,
it will also be televised. :boring:

13. Arianna actuallty did learn from Al Franken
and had the courage to examine and change her own world view in response to facts and analysis. That's a LOT more than many politicians, people in general (or many posters on any sort of political site) have the courage to do.

Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 10:24 PM by FrenchieCat
as to push one's same views throughout the last 18 months,
and continue this close to the election,
no matter how many additional starving children it will result in,
takes a lot of courage....or a lot of whatever.

How's Australia doing? :hi:

46. no, Obama worked against the bigger stimulus
His economic team was against it, with the exception of Christina Roemer, who got outmaneuvered by Summers.

Harry Reid was holding strong against the republicans and Obama pressured him to cut a deal with McConnell and Lieberman, or some other conservadem.

Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 08:58 AM by onehandle
And I don't mean covering it up, as if it was the same situation with Bush where Bush was clearly lying. Obama truly thinks Summers did a good job and used that phrase. He was not thinking of the Brownie incident. He said 'pun intended' to fold it into Jon's joke. Nothing wrong with that. Just a little slip.

Watch it again.

45. Most bits of the "progressive media" that I read disagree.
They don't say Obama has no accomplishments. They rail against milquetoast, incomplete, insufficient accomplishments while condemning developments that they really oppose. In other words, those media outlets, run by individuals and corporations (non-profit or otherwise) have their own agendas for how they use their resources, they maintain and independent ideological and political line.

What's needed, it would seem, is a Party organ. One that will toe the party's political line, against which politics progressive views can be judged to be correct or incorrect. Note that I find "party organ" in English to be mildly obscene, constantly having the thought that there are quite a few party organs already out and about; at least in Russian "organ" can't mean "dick," although Russian-speakers had the same humorous possibility with Party "members" (chleny; of course, we can make the same Stewartesque quips).

Of course, most Democrats would quickly be deemed politically incorrect in their views. There'd be constant problems with determining if the government should be putting out such an organ at all, or only when there's a (D) president in the White House.

As I keep telling my kid: When things don't go 100% his way, he acts as though they've gone entirely the wrong way. I have to constantly remind him that between those two poles lie most of the possibilities, and 50% of them aren't really all that bad.
