It's The Economy Stupid
It's not Tea Bagger birth certificate fantasies, nor Acorn fantasies, nor Obama's a socialist fantasies, or that Obama is too far right or too far left fantasies that are driving this election. It's the simple but immutable fact that this economy sucks. You can cherry pick this metric or that metric but the truth is nearly one in every five Americans is unemployed, underemployed, or is too discouraged to look for a job.

I don't blame President Obama. He was dealt a crappy hand and this economy would suck regardless of who was elected; be it McCain, Obama, or Hillary.

There will always be groups like the Tea Baggers among us but if the economy was better they would be relegated to the fringes of society instead of being granted a prominent place in it.

Here's to praying or hoping for a better economy because this crappy economy is going to be our ruination as individuals, as Democrats, and as Americans.

1. Yup, that is all it is...
All this other nonsense about how Obama has depressed the base, or the pollsters/media are conspiring against Democrats, etc, is all complete bunk.

The economy is terrible, and the voters are going to take out their anger on the party in power. Bottom line, voters blame Democrats and want to register their displeasure. This is not an anti-incumbent election (though there is some of that in some races), this is primarily an anti-Democratic cycle much like 2006 and 2008 were anti-Republican cycles.

When the economy does better, Democrats will do better. If the economy gets worse, Democrats will fare even worse.

So we've got to hope the economy turns around by 2012.

We are going to lose a lot of seats. If we can just hold our losses down and keep the House and Senate it will be a HUGE victory for Democrats.

2. + the lies about the economy
People are misinformed about the effectiveness of the stimulus and what was in the stimulus bill.

3. I Believe The Stimulus Worked
I believe the stimulus worked and the economy could be worse. But that's of cold comfort to the one in five Americans who are unemployed, underemployed, or too discouraged to look.

Telling those folks it could be worse is like telling a cancer patient he should be happy he doesn't have full blown AIDS.

5. But If Unemployment Was Still Hovering Around Ten Percent In 84 Mondale Would Have Beat Him
That's politics.

OMG if Unemployment was 10% in 1984
Reaganomics would be such a bad word, Mondale wins
with electoral votes to spare.

6. I agree. Anything else is kind of nonsense.
It is the most important issue.

With 1 out of 5 adults below 65 age without a job,
there is no enthusiasm to flock to the voting booth.
