Gloria Borger (CNN) just asked the most idiotic question I've heard yet about the rally
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 09:47 PM by spooky3
"did anyone ask the people there if they were actually going to vote?"

I was there.

1) I can guarantee you that few would have braved the transportation hassles and the huge crowd there if they didn't care enough about next week's elections to get themselves out to vote (or they may have voted already in states allowing early voting or with liberal absenteeism voting rules (I did as I am sure did many other Northern Virginians who attended)).

2) I can guarantee you that people who don't care about politics have plenty of other things to do on a beautiful day in DC and in their home towns than go to rallies intended to restore sanity to political discourse.

Yet another right wing pretend journalist who is running scared and trying REALLY hard to discount the rally attendance...

2. We should have a list somewhere of these people.
Borger has been useless since she was at US News back in the day.

Dana Milbank, Mark Helperin, John Harwood, some at NYT, Rick Berke and Adam Nagourney, just wastes of air and/or paper.

4. Makes you wish for a Media Whores Online.
The Daily Howler was pretty good until he got obsessed with education. And then here he slams that great segment by Rachel last week about the election and oh, it's the deficit, oh, it's obamacare, oh, it's the independents.

5. He slams Rachel and Keith all the time.
And he's started defending Republicans. He's really gone over to the dark side.

18. superficiality is what they do -- policy discussions require real homework which intrudes on Beltway
Cocktail hours.

6. She has been a RW shill for years.
That's probably why CNN hired her after she was fired by CBS.

8.  When I used to occasionally watch CNN I would change the channel whenever she was on.
She tries to come off as an objective analyst but fails miserably in that regard.

9. Within seconds of reading your post, I just heard the same question on MSNBC
Right as they were going to commercial..."tens of thousands showed up" for the rally but "will they show up at the polls" on Tuesday.

So I guess the new talking point given out is "just keep saying that all those people at that rally aren't gonna get out and vote on Tuesday".

11. Shocked, shocked, I tell you! If they had a genuine (though addled) question, why didn't they ask?
Oh, yeah, it was too difficult to squeeze their microphones and equipment through the densely-packed crowd.

There is a good photo on the front page of today's hard copy WaPo that shows how jammed it was in one small section and it was pretty representative of everywhere we walked (squeezed).

10. Casting doubt is a full time job for pundits and commentators
and even for self-professed journalists and anchors. Even some DUers are pretty good at it too.

12. concern trolls are everywhere--even on the air.
"We're concerned that these people are simply out to have a good time but aren't serious about voting. I think I saw some 60 year olds who looked high. Tsk, tsk."

16. just to be clear, the "quote" immediately above your post is my wording of what a concern troll is
thinking.

But the passage in quotes in my OP is my best attempt to quote Borger's actual words.

No matter my opinion about HER opinion on most days, I did give her credit for having a brain. Guess I was wrong.

19. Er...why else does anyone watch Jon Stewart? For the humor? Unless you are into politics
it would go over your head. My husband does not vote. He does not get Jon Stewart and does not laugh when he watches it with me. I mean, really...

20. They wouldn't have bothered to come out for a rally mocking Glenn Beck
if they didn't care about politics, Ms. Borger--so I'd put my money on every single one of them casting ballots on Tuesday.

Get back in your mini-van, Gloria.
