Worked out real well for Newt in 1995. Cut spending, so very 'populist' until the spending cuts are actually announced.

1. If I were Obama, this would have been my tactic ...........
I would of put HCR with a public option in the budget bill, and then I would of held my ground. Every time Republicans attempted to say they want less spending, I would call for an end to the automatic pay increase and tax payer funded health care for members of Congress as my first step I would then pull out the budget and invite the minority leaders over and go through it line by line while on C-Span.

Eventually the Republicans would fold and come to some sort of a compromise.
