WI Sen: Russ Gets Nod of ALL of WI's Largest Newspapers-- Even the Conservative Ones!

WI Sen: Russ Gets Nod of ALL of WI's Largest Newspapers-- Even the Conservative Ones!

by Jud Lounsbury

Here's a rundown, in order of paper size:

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

They have a senator who possesses a deeper knowledge of the issues, is unafraid on principle to buck his party or a president of any party, has proven he can reach across the aisle, is a harsh foe of legislative pork and excessive spending and has earned the disdain of Washington’s deal-maker, corporate lobbyists.

Wisconsin State Journal

Feingold, a Democrat from Middleton with roots in Janesville, is a budget hawk in the Senate. He often teams with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to call out his colleagues on both sides of the aisle for blatantly wasting money, borrowing huge sums to avoid tough decisions and cozying up to lobbyists.

Green Bay Press Gazette

Feingold has a solid jobs plan and detailed, specific proposals for controlling spending and reducing the federal deficit. He is a leading proponent of the pay-as-you-go principle that says government should not cut taxes or add entitlement spending without paying for it elsewhere, and he has joined with Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Janesville, in an effort to reduce pork-barrel spending in Washington.

Excellent.

1. Yet Nate Silver only gives Feingold a 5% chance.
What is wrong with the voters of Wisconsin?

3. And in my state (WA) Murray and Rossi are shown tied. This
is supposed to be a BLUE state! It used to be such a no-brainer, we'd just know the Dems were going to get the vote. :(

8. I don't believe the polls
I believe they are so desperate to control the story that they are saying they both Murray and Rossi are at 47%. I find that number unrealistic and too convenient.

The paper Headline says today, "Republicans poised to break Democratic stronghold" (paraphrasing). Again, they are trying to present a story that they are trying to make happen.

I am nervous but I am going to stay positive.

If Murray and the Dems lose, Washington residents better say goodbye to the high level of services and expectations they have grown used to.

4. Johnson has blanketed the airwaves
with "clever ads" - they're full of lies and bs, but to the ignorant uninformed - they probably make perfect sense.

And people want "change" when what's going on in their lives suck - and quite frankly, with the current economy - everyone's lives suck - and so the ignorant want to BLAME someone one - like Russ - and try something different.

Even if that something different will probably kill them in the long run.

9. These "chances" are a bunch of bullshit.
They are designed to make it look worse/better for people than they really are. Basically he/they are taking the polling numbers and margin for errors and placing a "chance" percentage based on those same polls.

Remember, garbage in, garbage out.

11. Well, Nate has been very accurate in the past. He may be wrong this time but I doubt
if it's a conspiracy. But let's see what happens on Tuesday. It's so close to the election now I don't see any point to arguing over what we think will or won't happen. The only poll that counts will be on Tuesday.

10. And Scott Brown was elected to Ted Kennedy's seat in MA...
what's wrong with the voters of MA?

And Ronald Reagan won CA twice for Governor and twice for President

What's wrong with the voters of CA?

Norman Coleman won Paul Wellstone's senate seat...

there are many examples of a so-called blue states electing republicans.

6. Won't help enough
Wisconsin is dumbing down at a radical rate. Underlying this IMO is a return to the racist, anti-semitic roots of McCarthyism which will trump our previously progressive past.

Residents are uncomfortable with a black president and a jewish senator when offered a supposedly "reasonable" alternative. They will vehemently deny this assertion, but I believe this unspoken undercurrent is fueling our turn to being a red state.

Millionaire Johnson's ads are very good, funded by mysterious money and saying nothing or baldly misrepresenting Russ's record .

7. Almost entirely meaningless...
Most people couldn't care less about newspaper endorsements.

The sway that once held is virtually entirely gone.

It's nice for Feingold, but it isn't going to help much.
