"We cannot raise taxes during a recession or economic downturn". |
|
This is being said by almost every Republican.
In effect, they are admitting that we are in a recession. But they want people to believe it is all Obama's fault. But it is quite an admission. Why?
Because, even though they admit we are in a recession, they have done everything within their power to oppose this President. They have even opposed extending unemployment benefits, even with this terrible economic downturn. What does that say about the Republicans?
They don't give a big shit about the people or whether we recover from the recession or not. They are obsessed with winning the next election and that is all that is on their minds.
Republicans admit we are in a recession but take no responsibility for it. They will not admit that it was their policies that put us here. And they felt no need to help the Democrats get out of the hole.
Republicans sit on their hands during economic disaster. They admit we are in a downturn but will not admit to the severity of the downturn. Then they say they want to continue exactly the same politices that got us into this mess. Except this time, they will cut programs on the poor and middle class until they scream in pain.

how to make do on less.
If the wealthy need lessons on how to live frugally, I'd be happy to offer them, for a price.

5. What gets me are the commercials pinning this administration for the bailout. |
|
They drafted and voted for the bailout - as did we - they know.
The republicans have already cut programs for the poor and disabled in my state. What's next?

7. Some people are in a depression; some folks are riding high |
|
and there must be some politicians who have enough guts to stand up and say that for those who are doing well, you must pay a little extra to ensure that the country as a whole does well. Else this country as founded will cease to exist.

even if they were to say it, the repugs would come right back and say that the tax brackets are "progressive" and the rich already are paying a little more. If we really are in a depression, then just like the last one, everyone needs to pay a little more, but the rich need to pay a LOT more!

15. What Republicans don't know is that Obama has CUT taxes during the recent economic downturn. |
|
About 40% of the stimulus was tax cuts. And thanks to Obama's stimulus, we are technically not in a recession anymore because the economy is now growing again in terms of GDP. But I'm sure most of the jobless won't believe that.

16. And when times are good (e.g. 2000) "we need to return that money to the taxpayers" |
|
Always the same, all-purpose tune.
In 2000 it was a travesty that taxes were high enough to pay down the national debt.

17. We went into this recession while the Bush tax were in effect. |
|
They have been in effect since 2003 and before, and they still are. And yet we went into the worst recession since the Great Depression and we're still in it. Just how is it that extending these same tax cuts is going to accomplish anything besides what they already have: Increase debt and wealth inequality while doing nothing to help the economy?

A lot of elected Democrats would want to make such a point. Too many, however, have drunk the trickle-down koolaid.

|
The reason rich people invest in business and not put that money into savings is to avoid taxes, if your taxes are already low there is no incentive to invest,or am I wrong????
