5. I hope that's wrong but it's likely right
Kentucky is a very conservative state and those rightwingers include a lot of nominal "Democrats."

3. And
people think the problem with the Party is Ben Nelson.

In the end Rand Paul did not have any trouble reunifying his party after the Republican primary- GOP voters are going for him by an 88-8 margin. Conway meanwhile is bleeding Democratic support. He's getting only 61% of the vote from his own party while a full 34% say they plan to vote for Paul. Paul also has a 48-40 advantage with independents.

They get what they deserve.

12. This is why I am not 100% confident in early voting numbers...
Democrats have a pretty big registration edge across the country. I am wondering if many of them are not real Democrats anymore and may be voting for the dark side.

13. A lot of Republicans are registered Dems in Kentucky
Due to local offices dominated by the Dems. In my county, I don't recall there ever being a Republican ever elected to ANY office in my lifetime. As a consequence, the Democratic primary is the de facto election. So if you're a Republican, and you want to have a say in your local contests, you have to register as a Democrat.

as a Republican so he can vote in the local primary, but always votes for the Democratic candidate in state and federal elections.

18. I guess but the issue is more what the poster above described
Until very recently there was no real Republican party here (we've had like 3 terms of a Republican Governor since like the Depression). Republicans regularly switched to Democrat to run for anything and I mean anything like school board and County Commissioner.

A friend of mine is pretty liberal both socially and fiscally but registered Republican pretty much as an act of rebellion against the system. Never votes puke but stays Republican because she grew up being told it was throwing away her registration.

McConnell was an outlier yet he was very mainstream because our Democrats cover much of the spectrum and the average seemed to be kinda similar to a blue dog. With the semi-resurgence of the Republicans the freeper types are out of the woodwork which has tilted our already conservative spectrum further right.

There is also a fuckload of stupid. There are Democrats that seem actually hyped to vote for Yarmuth but are voting for Randroid because...Conway is too liberal?????

That's how completely spun some folks are that they are comfortable as the cool side of the pillow with an actually pretty liberal guy but believe nonsense about someone much more con.servative that they've voted for before.

I think the liberal/conservative thing is pretty well busted. In fact it is almost like "liberal" means something akin to bad and "conservative" pretty much means good.

He'll let them keep their guns.
He'll make sure every knee bends at Jesus' name -- even though he's a 'libertarian'.
He'll make sure foreigners, and gay people, live in fear.
From time to time he'll try to have some of them blown up.
He'll make sure that that colored people know their place.
He'll piss liberals off.

That's America.
You could run and win in 1846 on that platform, or in 2010.
That's what America has been pretty much since its inception.
That's what We The People want, have wanted, will want when everyone on this board has died of old age.

Just because someone is registered as a Democrat, particularly in a state like KY, doesn't mean that they are loyal Democrats.

23. How is this a surprise?
I know democrats that will be voting republican just to get the healthcare mandate repealed. I have watched the debates of those 2 and the way Paul keeps focusing on HCR tell me that he sees a point of attack against Conway. People do not like the mandates and this will only get worse when 2012 comes around. But since we already chucked it up as a win, we can all rest now. And forget about fixing this bill now that we will lose the leadership/majority in the house.
