Tiger Woods story tops health care debate in media coverage for week that just ended (Pew)
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 08:54 PM by mcablue
Journalism.org, an arm of the Pew group, analyzed numerous news reports from print, online, TV, cable and radio and found the following results regarding what news received the most coverage during the week that passed (November 30-December 6):

The Salahis' party crashing ways also topped health care.

This is in contrast with the news that people were most interested in, illustrated in the following chart:

69% of people surveyed by Pew said the Tiger Woods' scandal story received "too much" coverage while only 9% said the health care debate received too much coverage.

Must keep the mob distracted.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

2. This is a perfect example...
... of why our country is so fucked up. Our journalists don't practice journalism at all. They have no inclination to actually give us the information we really need.

7. Reason for hope
Even while the media are dishing out garbage and fluff, it's clear from the last chart that what Americans care about is actual news, not tabloid tripe. Despite their best efforts, the media can't seem to succeed in completely dumbing down the American people. We're smarter and more thoughtful than they think.

9. Some are, some aren't.
I worry that too many are that dumb, and I hope the smart ones make themselves very loud.

The media are audience savvy. Tiger Woods is the perfect Greek tragedy. Everybody loves to see the powerful fall because their strengths turn out to be their weaknesses.

At least Balloon Boy is history.
