19. It was his out of context Ad is what did him in ..
Nothing wrong with negative Ads if they are accurate.
Grayson edited his opponent's speech to sound exactly opposite
of what the opponent was saying. That is outright fraud and once exposed it did Grayson in. Too bad because Grayson could have won without committing any obvious fraud.

52. From what little I saw in news
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 08:01 PM by golfguru
it was said that Alan's opponent's message was to NOT force
your spouse. Alan's Ad said exactly opposite by editing out the
"NOT" part. In my book that is dis-honest, no matter
who does it.

It looks like voters in Florida also thought the same.

61. All I am saying is that the news clips depicting Grayson
as twisting his opponent's words 180 degrees had to
have an effect on his credibility. Why did Grayson do it?
He was the incumbent and could have done well without
such a controversial Ad. JMHO.

What other reason do you think caused his defeat?

I think he saw it as a truth that voters should be aware of. Grayson gave people too much credit for being able to understand how Reconstructionism is a threat to our democracy.

51. Editing is just fine
if you omit certain portions. But you can never turn the
meaning 180 degrees around. That is as close to fraud as
you can get IMHO.

For example my local candidate for house, Danny Heck says
in his Ad that his opponent exported jobs. That conclusion
can be drawn indirectly from Herrera's past votes. So, even
if it is extrapolation it is perfectly legit.

46. Grayson's ad WAS accurate
Webster DOES believe wives are supposed to be submissive. In the original tape, Webster was saying "That's in the Bible" (that wives should be submissive) and "wives can pray for that." He was just instructing men not to pray for it. Wifely submission is a central tenet of Bill Gothard's teaching and Webster definitely believes it, and everything Gothard says. Webster also tried to make divorce illegal for covenant marriages, even in the case of abuse. He also opposes abortion even for rape or incest.

Webster is a Reconstructionist nutcase and a warmonger advocating war to create several democracies in the Middle East "to protect us." Florida screwed us over again.

35. I think the ad he ran comparing the Republican to the Taliban and taking quotes out of context...
Hurt him. Even if true, it was a nasty ad. It didn't play well at all. I think it cemented him in the eyes of many as a loon and though that isn't right, it's something EVERY Democrat has to be aware of when they're running. The media is quick to paint Democrats as something and if they feed into that stereotype, it often costs people votes.

It's not right, but it is what it is. You know?
