Who is leading a prominent progressive movement?

Messages from Krugman, Soros, Kuttner indicate there isn't a progressive movement. They're lamenting that it doesn't exist and have been using the President to spark a fire. It seems progressives realize that they've been outmatched by the teabaggers and are feeling lost and confused. The right is in lockstep with Beck, Limbaugh and Palin.

Everytime anyone on the left elevates the rhetoric it accomplishes nothing, inspires nothing. Nearly two years into this Presidency and no one has been able to ignite any serious movement. The message is that progressives shouldn't wait on the President, who has a country to run and isn't in a position to lead the kind of charge required to of a grassroots movement.

A few organizations have been able to organize to pressure elected officials to act on a legislative agenda. Organizations like the AFL-CIO, Americans for Financial Reform (Chris Bowers taking some credit), Health Care for America Now and others have taken the lead and took part in shaping the progress of the past 22 months.

The frustration and call to action expressed in messages by Krugman, Soros and Kuttner is missing a couple of key elements: leadership and an actual movement.
