Obama slams ‘fat cat bankers’ in CBS interview

US President Barack Obama has hit out at Wall Street "fat cats", expressing anger that banks bailed out by the government plan huge bonuses while millions of Americans battle poverty and unemployment.

"I did not run for office to be helping out a bunch of fat cat bankers on Wall Street," Obama said Friday in excerpts of an interview with CBS television to be aired on Sunday.

With unemployment still hovering at around 10 percent, amid a recession triggered in part by the excesses of financial institutions, Obama voiced frustration that "some people on Wall Street still don't get it."

Lavish pay and bonuses on Wall Street have been blamed for encouraging the excessive risk-taking that with the subprime mortgage housing crisis fueled the global maelstrom and brought the US financial sector to the brink of collapse a year ago.

That prompted the US administration to unveil a rescue package topping 700 billion dollars, in part to shore up troubled institutions.

2. He may not've planned to be helping out the bankers, but that's what he did anyway.
Well, I'm not so sure he didn't plan to help them out. I mean, how many Sach's lobbyists are in or hanging out with the administration?

This phony populist rhetoric crap is getting old. I like him better when he's apologizing for his actual right wing positions, rather than pretending he's some kind of populist. Gracious...

5. He's not pretending.......
He fucking grew up on food stamps,
without a father,
and grew up partly in Indonesia,
Jarkata being one of the poorest countries,
with a mother who never had much money,
same with his Grandfolks who helped raised him.
He went to school on scholarships,
and owed on student loans till fairly recently,
and earned very little money coming out of college,
cause he did what a lot of people don't do; something for others
instead of gettin' busy enriching himself.
He couldn't even get into the 2000 Democratic National Convention.
and he grew up Black.

He ain't fucking faking shit.

And perhaps what is wrong is you never liked him, apologies or no,
so take your own advise, and stop pretending to know what your are talking about,
cause you just really don't....and he'll prove you wrong.
I know you will hate that.

7. If only Obama had held the kinda savvy that FDR had.
Obama was a key proponent of supporting the Bush Bailout. Without his rounding up other Senators and Reps for their vote, the 700 Billion dollar Bailout might not have gotten out of the gate.

Then there is the matter of his appointing AIG-clone Bernanke, to headup the Fed, and his putting Geithner in at the Treasury. This year, Bernanke has released another 11 trillion and counting in form of guarantees and loans to the same big banksters that Obama is always "urging" and expressing so much disappointment over. But why didn't he try and appoint people who understood the matter, and who would not have given away so much money away? Born Brooksley comes to mind, that would have been REAL INSTANT KARMA for the banking crowd..

SIDEBAR: And until the Fed is audited, we won't even know if that eleven trillion and counting is the right amount or if more was given out.

It is good to see the financial reform bill that made its way into daylight this week. Its passage might be good things for us, or NOT.

Because the salient matter is this one - the cows left the barn more than a year ago. Putting the barn door of restrictions in place now is better than not putting them in EVER, but still...

The cows are out there, putting cream into the Christmas bonuses of all the Banking Fraudsters.

While the rest of us sit nervously staring at a small pile of presents, wondering how much more must be endured in this homeless, and jobless "recovery."

8. And yet he signed a credit card bill
that facilitated the transfer of more of the people's money to the fat cat bankers. What was he thinking? There must have been a reason. What was it?

23. exactly. he should have hired different people than the Wall St. lap-dogs then
and for someone who "didn't run to help out the fat cats" or whatever the exact words are, he sure has done an awful lot of it.

16. Ah, but that's what makes it all so fiendishly, brilliantly clever!
Some day soon it will all suddenly come together and you will be so humiliated to have been so wrong that you will drown in your own vomit!

19. Yes, but only if you have the money to pay for the mandated coverage.
I hear that the administration is now planning to end homelessness by mandating that everyone rent an apartment.

21. Oh wait-- we LIKE Raw Story again! I can never keep up.
If it's good spin, we'll take it as gospel. 99 percent of the time, we're obliged to dismiss anything in it without even reading it-- or whatever it links to.

Just noticing.

27. Fats cats get rich. Working people need government help.
Maybe if there was a limit that executives could only be paid so much more than lowest paid workers, we wouldn't have fat cats and people wouldn't
have to be asking the government for help.
