Dear Michelle, please feed your husband! He's looking too thin.
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 03:38 PM by Mimosa
OK, folks, I'm serious.

Dear Michelle, you're an admirable First Lady. But since Inauguration Day, our President appears to have lost 15 or more pounds he didn't need to lose. I've been watching. It's long been said the Presidency takes a toll on the men (so far) who've been entrusted with its heavy responsibilities.

I wish I were Obama's personal chef. I wouldn't feed him unhealthy foods, but I'd try to get some more nourishment into him. His complexion is getting pale. His hair is thinning. Worst of all his face is looking drawn.

I'd feet him some nice braised dishes like Coq au vin blanc with potatoes gratin and braised kale. Sort of Mediterranean/Provencal soul food as a base cuisine. Croissants, fruit and Chobani yogurt for breakfast. Steel cut Irish oatmeal with whole milk and cafe au lait or tea. Fritatta with spinach and feta cheese, turkey sausage and good whole grain muffins at brunch on Sundays. Also the occasional real soul food meals, including buttermilk fried chicken, greens, blackeyed peas, rice, fried okra, chopped salad and corn bread.

Michelle, it is my opinion that you hired your chef with a lookout towards keeping yours and the girls weight down. Women put and maintain on weight more than men, it's a fact. A sous chef is needed to cook a different menu for our dear President, if you don't want to eat more robustly.

Also, try Nioxin's patented formula 'Recharge' Vitamins. They work very well to strengthen hair and nails, which mean they genuinely help the body as a whole. Obama's hair has been thinning, in case you have not noticed.

8. Ignorant?
I've been on Democratic Underground a long time. And most of my posts aren't lighthearted.

I DO CARE ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT. The photograph I used isn't even new. Obama has lost more weight since that one in early spring (I think). He is looking drawn and washed out and I CARE about him.

14. this strikes a personal chord with me.
my husband is tall and thin and his big fat family kept ribbing me about not 'feeding' him.

they were big bellied fat assholes.

when I told them it's healthier to be thin that big fat assholes, they didn't want to talk to me much after that.
good thing.

22. That's like my brother
he has a fast metabolism and people are always making rude (IMO) remarks about him being a stick, thin as a rail etc. I really don't know why people think it's acceptable to comment on someone's weight even when you're thin it's hurtful.

27. they are 'conservative' minded.
and so called Christians but are judgemental, spiteful, meddling and just outright mean to serve their nasty little needs. My husband doesn't want to do anything with them, and I am so glad I don't have to endure their snobbery anymore.

The fact they are overweight - that's not a big deal at all to me and I wouldn't say anything like that normally. but they pushed buttons, and pushed and pushed so I played their game.

Oh, the looks on their faces when I basically said being thin is a lot healthier than being FAT!! (then gave them that eyeball lookover up and down).

2. If anything is wrong with a man it's always the woman's responsibility
to fix it. The opposite is not the case though, except to keep her in line, a la Franklin and Eleanor.

5. Lighten up.
I like both Michelle and Barack. Barack has not been looking well lately. All loving couples whether M/F or F/F or M/M look out for each other and care for each other's health.

3. "OK, folks, I'm serious."-- I wish you weren't.
Do you have any opinions on how the First Lady dresses her husband that you'd like to share? Or anything else about their private lives you'd like to comment on?

7. I could get with that menu...but who says he's NOT eating a decent amount?
Maybe he has a metabolism in overdrive.

I wouldn't worry too much about his stamina - he's robust enough to keep up his sports regimen.

I'd think his doc would have a good eye on the Chief Executive's health.

Way too many Bush holdovers. That worries ME.

Too thin? Probably just a guilty conscience from betraying the base.

18. Oh, it's sexist alright
The notion that a wife has to feed her husband went out with corsets. If a man doesn't eat, that's on him. It's not the responsibility of wife to 'feed' him.

Sheesh!

Clio, that photograph looks great. His hair is thinning a lot. That can happen from stress as well as aging. He's not yet at the age where hair falls out a lot.

At least I care about him. And in no way am I sexist. :D

25. Thanks for recognising I am not an 'Obama hater', Clio.
I am a 'mambo' who gets recognition and respect from other mambos 'in the religion'.

Maybe some people here have relationships and realise a wife or partner (to a woman or a man) can be supportive and look after their partner. Maybe Barack has such heavy worries and a busy schedule. Who but his life partner would be invested in 'looking out' for him on a very personal concerned level?

As a serious feminist/activist from back when feminists were called 'bra-burning manhaters' I really resent the 'sexist' label.

I met him once and he was even thinner and younger looking in person.

Reminds me of the skinny-minis in my family, who are very healthy.

28. Polichick, depressed by criticism of Prez Obama, I decided to send POSITIVE ENERGY to him
And his family.

After my disappointment about the big health care letdown, I was bitter and scared. I am still scared. I might have to go without health insurance. I might have cancer and not be able to afford care. But maybe the president genuinely could not get us medicare for all. It looks like he didn't try. He seems constrained to speak about the inside stuff. Maybe he acting under threats from the shadow government.

I want to help him break from that, if he can. I cannot think the worst of the man I supported to become president. I contributed time and money I really didn't have.

Anyhow my spirits tell me something is wrong right now. We can send positive energy his way or we can do what the negative forces want us to do: feel bitter and betrayed.

I'm not happy about health care 'reform'. Nothing will help me about it. But Obama being kicked like an old soccer ball won't help ME.

I really want to cook for him. And I'd cook for him with love.

30. Sweet potato pie with pecans!
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 07:22 PM by Mimosa
Sweet potatoes are nutritious. Pecans have been shown to be heart healthy. So a sweet potato pie with a few pecans on top would be nutritious. And i'd fix it with LOVE. here's a recipe:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/sweet-potato-pie-recipe/index.html

Polichick, I have decided that I was getting sucked into negativity about the President, especially here on D.U.. I was getting depressed.

But my loa (that's like a guardian saint) said we all can turn this around if we stop the negativity. Spirit says Barack (spirit doesn't say Obama ever, calls him Barack) needs our positive energy to be strong.

A tad 1950s don't you think? I'm sure he is quite capable of feeding himself. Also, I think Michelle has more important things to do than to "feed her husband".
