All Matt Taibbi did was tell the TRUTH . . . obviously a lot of DUers CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH
President Obama was SWEPT into office by Democrats of all stripes. All he had to do was LEAD, and the so-called "Blue Dogs" would have had no choice but to follow.

Does anyone think Ben Nelson would have had the BALLS to vote against a strong public option if President Obama had staked his career on it, and made it a non-negotiable part of HIS health care proposal?

Does anyone REALLY think President Obama was serious about re-regulating Wall Street after he dumped the PROGRESSIVE economists who guided his campaign, and replaced them with Geightner, and Summers, and the rest of the Rubinites, once he was elected?

Get real folks.

1. He is mandating
climate initiatives with backdoor policies. If he wants something done, it gets done. He has more power than any other President in the history of the USA.

15. I'm not sure about that. What about FDR in 1933 or LBJ in 1965?
And to read some conspiracy theorists at DU, Obama doesn't have any power at all. They say that there is a mysterious behind the scenes group of power brokers that controls everything, and if you cross them like JFK did in 1963, they will kill you. According to this theory, that is why Obama has backed off on so many progressive policies and sent more troops to Afghanistan, because this mysterious group of power brokers is forcing him too or else. I don't buy it, but a lot of others seem too. If you do a thread about it at DU, you will get lots of recs and be on the greatest page in no time.

18. The office of President
has unprecedented powers since GW, and maybe even Clinton. The shadow government has been pulling strings for a long time. Nothing new there. It is just that NOW the OFFICE of the president is an even sharper tool in their arsenal.

People weigh the facts differently depending upon the circumstances, that's called Freedom.

See, a public option is just a "sliver". How can someone strongly push for a "sliver"? :sarcasm:

9. Look behind the headlines . . .
Wall Street is laughing all the way to the bank, just like the health care insurance is now that "health care reform" is close to being passed.

17. HC is not going to pass this year and that's FINE.
I have been having a GREAT time calling my Republican senators, self identifying as a Democrat, and telling them to vote against this bill, even in its current most "progressive" (Ha!!) form.

23. Oh, I'm happy you're enjoying this CHARADE, while people are dying and going bankrupt.
Obama should have had this shit wrapped up within weeks of getting into the White House. HE HAD A MANDATE. He chose to fuck around and kiss Rethugs asses and not even consider universal healthcare.

This HAS been a joke. I guess I see why you're laughing.

21. Taibbi outright lied. His assumptions were based on no repayment of TARP at all and a total failure.
...of the banking system, and thats just the surface of all the things wrong with his JOKE of a hit piece. The article has all ready been thoroughly discredited by many now and can no longer be considered credible by any standard.

30. Just like Democrats followed when Clinton led in '93!

Oh, wait. They didn't follow. They tabled all healthcare initiatives because Clinton was pushing them around. So we ended up with nothing.

In their defense, Clinton did spend the entire '92 campaign telling everyone how horrible the Democrats in Washington were. Between that and thinking he could push around the legislators in Washington like they apparently do in Arkansas and Tejas....

33. why do you think Ben Nelson wouldn't have the balls to vote against the public option
Do you know anything about Nebraska? Like the fact that it has three (out of three) repub Congresscritters and its other senator is a repub elected in 2008 by a 58-40 margin and that McCain defeated Obama in Nebraska by nearly the same margin?

I don't like what Nelson is doing, but to think that Obama has some magic power to get him to change his vote is not reality based thinking.
