3. Unfortunately, the cartoonist drew Obama's arch upside down. |

That form of bending at this point would be more appropriate.

Funny, though.
Hey Dave!
Sadly, at some point in political discourse, epithets about a Politician's character become unshakable, and it's mighty early into a Presidential term for this kind of thing. It's like he's the neighborhood nice-guy throwing a block party, and even inviting over the cannibals who moved in down at the corner.
The characterization of rubber-band man accommodation has stuck in our national discourse, and that kind of thing is hard to erase. Clinton will always be a veracity-challenged slippery charmer, and that's just the way it is. Bush I will always be a wimp. Carter will always be a micromanaging nice guy. It's when these things get firmly affixed that trouble arises and the taunting schoolkid nature of humanity takes over on the playground of politics.
The hope to be the transcendent post-partisan master of ceremonies who's loved by all is simply not possible now, and continuing with the same one-trick pony schtick shows either crippling narcissism, obliviousness, naivete or a bizarrely ironic brittle tactical inflexibility.
I guess we'll have the occasional few good laughs as the stern rises high out of the water and we take that last fine arching thrill ride before plunging into the briny depths, but I'd rather have a President who's an iceberg than some kind of a fog bank. The cartoons had better be damned good...
