1. All 10 congressional seats in Massachusetts went to the Democrats in November.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 01:26 PM by David Zephyr
10 for 10. While I want to believe he's doing the correct thing, it is also apparent that he knows his constituency is watching him.

I will give him credit for breaking with his party if he does so on this issue because it is a very wicked policy.

Thanks, Clio the Leo, for bringing us the good news.

2. His speech/testimony at the DADT hearing seemed real.

He said the he doesn't care if a wounded/killed soldier is straight or gay. It doesn't matter.

Sounds like this is not political for him. (Although if it would cost him re-election, he may change his mind.)

28. Don't let Snotty Scotty fool you--this IS political.
He knows that Massachusetts escaped the red tide and that he'll get his ass kicked if he doesn't throw us a bone. Of course, I fully expect him to go right back to railing us in the ass afterwards. Lying pig.

4. But will Collins and Brown actually vote for repealing it, or find another reason not to.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 01:40 PM by Mass
They voted for the repeal in committee earlier this year, then voted against the motion to cloture of the bill with some vague procedural issues.

5. I'm 99.9% sure that Rachel Maddow said Richard Lugar, Susan Collins,
Lisa Murkowski, probably Voinovich, and a couple others are ALSO in favor of repealing DADT. Take THAT, McCain!

6. Very very good sign
Hearing was a good idea. I don't see how Collins turns it down now. Hell, they may even free up Kirk to vote for, since he can get straight buried in Illinois for opposing it six years hence.

A few others may be freed by the whip to vote aye. I don't see how they filibuster the Defense Authorization bill behind DADT if you have people like Brown openly declaring for it.

25. Kirk was immediately appointed deputy whip in order to kibosh
his endless campaign promises of being an "independent" who "works with all sides."

I must have seen 500 Kirk campaign commercials in Chicago.

Not one of them bothered to mention that he was running as a Republican. Cynical as all git out. But it also means he can't show up in six years with a record that looks like Jeff Sessions.

9. Not crazy at all.
The opposition at this hearing have been reduced to lecturing. Obama's study (that we all whined about) has given the moderates the coverage they need. DADT is in it's last hours.

13. Didn't all 42 Republicans...
...say they'd filibuster everything until the tax cut issue is dealt with? Even some things they may support.

Pretty sure only START was exempt from that.

marriage into law. Lieberman is for repeal and has been for a long time. I just hope Collins follows though. Maine did vote against gay marriage not that long ago. It is the more rural New England state and has always been a bit more conservative.

23. Did you watch McCain today? Knowing that THIS panel was more AGAINST repeal PERSONALLY,
he asked each one of them what their personal feelings of repealing DADT were. Of course, when Admiral Mullen gave HIS personal opinion, McCain said that his personal opinion didn't matter. (That was months ago, before he gave his PROFESSIONAL opinion, which was the same as his personal opinion.) McCain is flailing around like a fish out of water.
