it wasnt in those exact words but he admitted that it was rhetoric for mass consumption that he had no idea how he was going to put into practice.

Not even close. Nobody running for president has any idea how big and difficult the job will be. They can only tell you what they want to do...they can't tell you how they are going to do it.

5. He never left. He just isn't campaigning anymore
he's governing, and doing an excellent job.

- In June 2009, U.S. Forces occupied 357 bases. U.S. Forces currently occupy 121 bases, and are expected to reduce that number to 94 bases by the end of August.

...He canceled a weapons program that was bloated, unnecessary and totally irrelevant to either of our current wars, the F-22. Why even mention the cancellation of a single weapons system? Because that never happens. Weapons systems never get canceled. The F-22 did, which is itself a miracle.

12. It was all smoke and mirrors.
Edited on Sun Dec-05-10 05:21 PM by Beacool
As many of us told you repeatedly. When you are a blank slate and few people know anything much about you, it is very easy to make empty promises to a gullible public. Obama reminded me of Madonna, great at marketing herself but not the best singer around.

Axelrod's strategy was to keep Obama's speeches as vague as possible. Lot's of talk about hope, change and semi messianic proclamations. Such as, "we are the ones we've been waiting for" and the other ones about oceans receding and planets aligning, etc.

Personally, I wasn't in search or in need of a messiah/cult leader. I wanted a middle of the road pragmatist who had been around the block long enough to beat the Republicans at their own game. Instead, we got a very green guy who was pushed around by Congress from day one and we are now paying the consequences.

:(

14. Uhh...Hillary would've been worse
She wouldn't even have tried health care. Given her experiences with it, she wouldn't even have attempted reform. And we'd probably be have way more troops in Afghanistan or be involved in more wars. Say what you want about Obama, but Hillary would've been much worse.

Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 09:18 PM by dflprincess
at the time Obama opposed them. But, in the end, that's what he signed into law.

Obama or Clinton - there was no difference. Both are "new" Democrats and Clinton would have been just as willing to sell us out as Obama has been.

These are the two candidates the MSM pushed in order to give us the illusion that we had some kind of choice. Next time, let's all remember to pay more attention to the candidates the media is ignoring or even attacking. That's where we'll find the actual Democrat.

15. I didn't see any messianic proclamations, or talk of the oceans receding and planets aligning.
But I realize that's just hyperbole. Yet to the point.

I don't see any Obama "cult". He's roundly criticized by other Democrats and Independents, here and in other public discussions in print or electronic media. He's basically pilloried by the Republicans on any stated position or innuendo of a position.

I hear that you didn't get the President you wanted. I see the disconnect between campaign rhetoric and specific results after the election. The President and the Congress are all party to that. In my view, it's usually the case. In any election - from a city Mayor, a County seat, a State seat to a national seat.

The media is a party to expectations, as well. They find a "theme" and run with it. Pointed, objective journalism goes out the window of the campaign bus. And the debates - a farce. All could and should be done better.

That said, I'm looking at how and where we go from here, politically. I think Obama *is* a middle of the road pragmatist - that's his strength and his weakness, politically. We have another two years to go. The first two have been a mixed bag. The next two will likely tell the tale.

Personally, I remain in the game. :hi:

23. I suggest you check his speech in Grant Park upon winning the nomination.
Edited on Sun Dec-05-10 09:37 PM by Beacool
This is the last paragraph of his speech.

"The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. This was the moment - this was the time - when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves, and our highest ideals. Thank you, God Bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America."

29. That was off the charts
in terms of messianic value. No prediction that the oceans would stabalize. Only that "this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow." They would still be going up, just at a slower rate. Isn't that typical Obama -- take the middle ground, even on the rise of the oceans. Just hilarious. And to think no one called him out on it.

"I wanted a middle of the road pragmatist who had been around the block long enough to beat the Republicans at their own game." Bill Clinton, who has been around the block in more ways than one, wasn't running in '08. ;)

32. I won't vote for anyone but Obama
He has done an amazing job. To get out from under the direct governance of GOP, was the first step and huge sigh of relief. To attempt any policy making given the road blocks has been always, always, always an uphill battle. Sure, I get that he hasn't been able to reach the summit of policy adoption, but damn it wasn't for lack of trying and maneuvering.
